Because the OW is there and how the game is designed.  You really want them to re-design the game and split the player base even more?  And last I looked, there were already small and large battles.  How come these are not more popular if people prefer lobby-based?

We are talking about PvP events here. Add some prices similar to Fellvreds small battle challenge and watch how people will join.

What re-design are u talking about? Its just adding another option, not hard to do.

Splitting playerbase? Right now there is just nothing to do outside of PBs and the PvP event, so why not give us a reason to log in between those? So many PvP players left the game already because there is just no content for them.

And thats the problem...  There is so much more to do other than those two things.  If people would just stop logging in strictly for ridiculous "Port Battles" and get out on the OW, there would be a lot more fun.  Its a self-defeating argument.  I kinda wish they'd take RvR out of the game for the time being...

Well Merril.

Imagine that we had 2000 online playing the game. It was actually so when battles where open so players could find easy action in OW. The problem is that this option has been killed totally with instant battle timers. Its like the game wants players to play in some special ways. But players dont. They just quit the game. Now this game is not for players that like combat. Its more like a game for solo-hunters or very well organized groups. The mainstream gamers has been abondoned by the devs. Which again reflects on players online. Its just not as fun as it could be right now.

There's the rub right there... if there were 2000 players online, then likely most open battles would escalate into Trafalgar sized events during peak periods. This would thrill some players and anger others who were just trying to tag an enemy or NPC trader. Solo pirates would not be happy either. You keep painting open battles as the cure to all population problems in NA and it just isn't that simple. You aren't happy with the current RoE (neither am I really) but others think it's the best we've ever had.

The only way to truly gauge the feeling of the majority is for GL to put a poll into the NA launch sequence that *all* players respond to. Polls in these forums are all well and good but generally *at best* we get a third as many responses as there are PvP1 players online during peak times. So it may be as low as a quarter (or less) of the actual active players when all three servers are considered.

ROE is to blaim for this. If there is a battle that is about to envelop - it takes time to find it and the other players. Instant closing ROE simply killing this. Hence I have been advocating for longer ROE timers or a different ROE.

Here is the solution.

PVP on the OW should exclusively be based around the hunt and the chase.  It should be focused on ruining the commerce of other nations and in return, those nations should strive to protect its economy.  The only reward is what you can privateer and ego.

We have large/small/duel options already available.  Turn those into the PVP events around the clock.  Spam "Large Battle Event Starts in 15mins" or whatever and people join who want to.  Give out PVP points for items that are cosmetic.  Paints, flags, ship names...whatever.

Bring back PVE events and have these drop the BPs and stuff.  Similar to before, leave a breadcrumb trail of hints for players to figure out.  Make them sail 2 hours and find a shipwreck and fight to keep it.
