no more smuggling, no more missions ? (assuming that the amount of dailies is limited like in other games)

Sounds like a hard hit against PvE

I really don't care for PVE but do think Devs should consider how these changes will effect the PVE server (some players do not want PVP). Without missions, or with just dailies, I think they will just have to sail to find bots to fight. Maybe that's a good thing?

Mission-based PvE is something I would only wish on Chinese gold farmers.

Go hunt the OW for your PvE.

What is wrong with missions? I take a mission, I sail to the location and I know it will be there, and I know roughly what to expect. Reliable, relatively fast way to get to the pew-pew, that's why we casuals mostly prefer it.

To hunt in the OW, you have to sail to enemy waters to find enemy AI, and in case you find a fitting enemy, engage it and hope no player comes across to help the enemy. Takes a lot of time, unreliable, and limited in enemy variety (I mostly see AI fleets consisting of 2-3 frigates, or 20 SoL-s. Not much inbetween).

Let us play our little game. What's driving you against it?

I do mostly PvE and missions are soul-sucking drudgery that poison new players' minds against the game because they are encouraged and incentivized to suffer from the worst content NA has to offer.

If you want to be a sea wolf, you have to actually hunt. Missions are literally farming. Plant a seed, go harvest.

OW bots need to be adjusted so they are actually suitable as targets. More long NPCs, fewer fleets.

I kind of agree that missions can get dull fast.  A few small tweaks might make a big difference - eg: would be more interesting to having missions where one has to hunt a specific AI ship in an area; some missions could be to "capture" rather than "sink"; etc....

No port blockade PvP missions?  Blockading was a huge deal during this period in history that this game is set.

No built in game tournament system?  Competitive players need a balanced and fair PvP system.

No lobby system so players can duel each other or assigned teams can duel?

sometimes you and your friends in the same clan/nation want to have some fun dueling each other.

No trader escort PvP missions?

Look, if money is tight, as seems from the kickstarter, just  add paint micro transactions to the game.  $2 for a specific paint you can put on a specific ship.  If you lose the ship with the paint, the paint goes to a special purchased content tab.

@Yar Matey

There is already a system for duels, under the missions tab, duels.  Groups can form & do small battles (although dur is lost with those). I just think those need improving upon.

The current system is awful sorry.  I can't duel someone unless we have equal BR.  It is not acceptable in its current state.

  • Community relations heads up
    • In 2016 we have been very active on the forums, responded to you multiple times a day, participated in the discussions, argued with you and sometimes fought with you. We found that our openness/directness started to be used against us, sometimes because of us. We will be doing some changes in the way we talk and discuss things with the community.

First off thank you for the update plan for the first half of 2017. It is very appreciated. Secondly, I believe that closing yourself off from the community which is what it seems to me like you are saying will not change anything. There will be just as much grumbling as you currently have when being open and direct. People will complain just to complain. You will get the same issues anywhere you go and the best you guys can do is just ignore their insults.

and you can't do 3x3 or 6x6.  We would kinda like more of a training room too or make a dual room where you can change some of the things or pick maps/ports to fight in.

Seriously, a Kickstarter?!?!

For fixing a ship that should just be fixed anyway....

The rest of it I have no problem with but a Kickstarter to fix the Constitution, no, just fix it.  And have a US ships Kickstarter, and a Danish Ships Kickstarter, and a Swedish ships Kickstarter.

It is funny isn't it?. Read what I posted before. I think the only Kickstarter we need is content kickstarter.

Listening and acting on player feedback is good. Too much of it is akin to having 10 people on a ship's wheel each trying to steer in a different direction. Looking forward to the changes, hold fast devs.

Do the devs have a 3d modeler and designer or do they hire freelance?

Admiralty

  • Certain activities will provide marks of victory, honor, conquest that you will be able to convert to exclusive content or buy other activities. Hostility system will get dropped and port battles will be arranged by purchasing them in the admiralty (simliar to the old assault flag system but without exploitation). Lord protectors might return to provide some clarity for port battle timers.

Can't wait for the Admiralty store. But please don't go back to Lord protectors we had so few PBs due to that. Work to encourage players to balance the sides.

I feel this needs to be a multi pronged approach.

  1. At the character creation screen, call out nations with the lowest weekly average population. This is to encourage new players to balance the population.
  2. Within the PBs, buff the nation with the lower total on line population. It doesn't have to be large but a small buff to the ships (rate of fire, speed)  or the cap rate.
  3. Allow pirates to join PBs on either side after a time (15-20 minutes after the first players on both side joins) . This would effectively allow pirates to join any PB.
  4. Change the political roe.
  • Change to a 3 state system, allied, neutral, at war.
  • Allied, can not attack each other, can lower hostility for allied nations and join allied nations PBs. Joining a PB for a allied nation would get you additional loot/cash.
  • Natural, can be attacked or attack other neutral nations, can not create PBs against neutral nations, can join PBs for or against neutral nations as long as it does not violate allied or at war rules. Neutral nations can only join PBs after a set time (15-20 minutes after the first players on both side joins) to allow the defending / attacking nations priority. Joining a PB for a neutral nation would get you additional loot/cash.
  • At war, can attack be attacked, raise hostility and create PBs, can only join against at war or neutral nations PBs.

The point of the changes is to encourage players to help defend/attack nations that may not be able to defend/attack themselves. As well as allowing any player join any PB that is not full.

We are not sure yet if we want to split pirates into two groups The Pirate Republic of Nassau under black flag acting as nation and Outlaws – real pirates under red flag of Moody with no Capital.

I just find pirates as a nation to be redundant with other nationals. If you  are into regular RVR, just join a regular nation. If you  are a lone wolf type into privateering, then pirate it is.

It is just a suggestion, but it could be worth a try to give them one region as capital (kidd's harbour, that could be the only place to craft Pirate Refit ships, giving pirates an alternative source of income by selling those ships to nationals) and let them operate from free towns.

If this make it too difficult to gather resources, they could be allowed to raid nation owned regions for ressources but not conquer them?

This would surely have a negative impact on the numbers of players choosing so sail under the black flag, but those staying would be remembered by their real name, fame, and feared ;) (allow them to design they own personal ensign from different presets if need be!)

Food for thought.

Whats wrong with missions? The hard core PVPs can't stand that there is a non-PVP aspect to the game.

If there are no PVE missions, then why we have a PVE server?

Also PVE  in most games supports PVP activities. If done well, PVP and PVE can live quite well together.

I think that it will affect more than just PVE.

It will be much more difficult for new players who join the game on one of the PvP servers to rank up.

KICKSTARTER

1. Does this mean that if I pay for a special ship-pack, I get the ships, but players who have not paid for it do not?

MISSIONS

2. No more missions means that there is only PvE against AI ships or AI ship fleets?

Please explain, and thanks for the update.

hostilitysystem isnt bad, it just needs tweaks so pvp gets encouraged.  5 minute open missions dont encourage them, the huge area where missions spawn dont encourage this either.

I guess it's because of the complains that pve player made while they got jumped by pvpler in their mission or on the way to it.

In my opinion it's a good step because it sets the focus back to OW. It's an OW game and not a mission based one. And it seems to me that people can still do a fix amount of daily missions (for people who have a limit amount of time) Mission add nothing to the games. They draw away player. It's a multiplayer game missions turn it into a singleplayer and missions make it a grind-fest.
