Game freezes PC

I've already sent a bug-report but I thought this is worth a topic.

I started a union-campaign a few days back and got a somewhat random freeze on the army management screen after the second battle (had to kill my pc, see down below). Starting the game again, I couldn't reproduce it. One battle later though, it happened again. First I thought that this might be an issue with my created saved games but now I loaded an autosave and, surprise, it also crashed. Several times with various savegames actually. It never occurred outside the army management screen though, neither in a battle nor in the deployment-screen. And it's not happening with any other game I installed, I tried a couple just for testing (so no hardware problem). The crash seems rather arbitrary, sometimes it happens twice and sometimes not a single time in hours.

What do I exactly mean by freeze?: First my mouse stops moving, then my screen looses the signal and turns black and finally, after ten to twenty seconds, the sound stops and the game freezes ultimately. So far I had no other chance than killing my PC via the on/off-Switch.

You thought this was over? Nope. I was thinking that maybe the game will write an automatic bug report and save it to the game-directory in steam. Well, clicking on the directory froze my PC again! (Could it be something I've installed on my PC? Firewall exception is activated)

Frankly, I'll now wait before I continue the game. It's an alpha so I should expect things like that but seriously, I'm not going to kill my PC with this game. If I can help fixing this, please tell me.

I do have 800 frames as well, so overheating might be the issue (and would make sense). How can I change it though? I do have Radeon Pro and I changed the max. frames for UG:CW to 60 yet I still get 800 when I start the game. How can I override the game settings? Anyone ever used Radeon Pro before?
