  1. Given the actual system of access to port battles (based on the friend status), it could be useful to implement a mechanic that could make things easier: alliances. Basically an alliance is a group of clans that are all friend to each other. 1) one clan creates the alliance, sets the name thereof and that will be the clan that decides who is in and out 2) once a clan is in the alliance, he automatically gains the "friend" status with all the other clans in the same alliance 3) (optional) each alliance could have a OS TAG that will be dislayed also on players' names.

    I have a suggestion that I think would make the game politics work. If one could choose which nations had access to which port, then an infinity of deals becomes possible.

    [PVP EU] Political Situation

    There is currently no place for the EU server where people not involved in inner diplomatic circles can know the newest diplomatic developments, so I thought I just start this thread until something better will be set up. As you will see, its pratically a copy of the Global servers thread by Teutonic. I have no connections or information channels yet since Im pretty new to the game, so please inform me here or ingame about any wrong information or new developments. I will try to get more involved going forward, but if somebody already good connected wants to take over this thread, he or she is very welcome! Altough I know there are already agreements, I've set default War? until I get otherwise notified. If there are crucial specifications to the respective agreement, please inform me so that I can clarify the description. I will try to update this thread accordingly as regularly as I can. Also, please feel free discuss the feasability of the following format! As I said its just copy and pasted. Format will be as follows: War -- A significant proportion of clans (either per number or size) has officially declared war against the other nation, with a clear wargoal (f.e. to take certain ports). Hostile -- There hasn't been any official statements/declarations of war, but there are frequent attacks and conquests. Neutral -- There are neither (regular) hostilities, nor any additional agreements made. Agreements -- Trade agreements, NAPs, NIPs, Port Agreements, or other limited agreements will define this slot. Description will specify the agreements content. Alliance -- An Alliance is made when a significant proportion of clans (either per number or size) within a nation are in agreement. Greyed Out -- means there is additional confirmation needed. Clans Agreements: If a Clan wishes to have agreements be made public, they may do so, otherwise nothing is official. Ideally, each agreement-info-comment is described by the respective nations, clans and specifications involved. See the SAPA-post. I'll give a short description á la Format above and will then link your comment so anybody interested can look at the details of different involved parties, etc. Maybe this way we can pass by the problem, that diplomacy is essentially Clan-based.   4. So because a possible snowball effect is too heavy with the new system i want to propose a extended alliance system compared to the old one. Because it has more things i call it diplomacy system. With this system a removal of the smugglerflag wouldn't hurt too much too. I explain (hopefully everything) in the text below. There are 4 different relations between nations: Peace Alliance War Truce Tldr: Peace = Still pvp but no conquest of regions; entry to onanothers harbours Alliance = old system with voting but only 1 alliance and biggest nation (count of owned regions) can't form alliances; can join each others portbattles War = pvp with conquest of regions; no entry to enemys harbours; ends after 1 side lost 2 regions or after 2 weeks truce = no pvp; lasts for 1 week; entry to harbours posible Which problem is this solving? Wars right now go on until one side suffers so much playerattrition that they can't continue fighting. At this point the winning side conquers as much regions as possible. This results in even more players leaving the game. Truce is suggested because of this. (read further for explanation) Another thing is that alliances don't break with the current implementation. This is why alliances get some restrictions. (Read further) Peace/Neutral (proper name has to be found to be more intuitive) Peace is the standard between nations. Entry to peace: After a truce ends What happens in peace: Players can still attack each other. This is to build up hostility which leads to war. Hostility does not decrease so you will be at war with oneanother at some point (historical: pirating or whatever) Entering each others harbours possible. Playernames are marked green when you click on them instead of red. If you attack you get a message : "You are in peace with this players nation. If you attack you build up hostility which leads to war. You suffer no consequences. Are you sure you want to attack?" restrictions: You can not join each others portbattles You can not build up hostility in regions Exit from peace: Sinking/capturing players builds up hostility which will lead to war. (BR related) Alliance Entry to alliance: Voting like we know it. Change to pre-alliance system: A nation can only ally 1 other nation. Biggest nations (regioncount) can not form any alliances. What happens in alliance: Players can not attack each other Entering each others harbours Playernames are marked blue restrictions: Can't be disbanded while in a war no ressource buildings in allied ports (to give a reason to cancel a alliance and fight a war - more dynamic) Exit from alliance: Voting War Entry to war: Hostility limit reached If you go to war with someone, you drag your ally into the war and the enemy drags his ally into the war Exit from war to truce: one of both sides lost 2 (should get tweaked after experience is made) regions. That gives a chance for recovery for the loosing side. OR after 2 weeks What happens in war: You can't enter each others harbours full pvp, hostilitybuildup in regions is possible and therefore portbattles are possible playernames are red Truce entry to truce: from war Exit to peace: After 1 week What happens in truth: You can enter each others harbours Playernames are grey(maybe too the same as peace without attack button?) You can not attack each other Special Cases 1. Nation A and B are allied. Nation C and D are allied. Nation D and B are in a truce. War between A and C breaks out. => Truce gets interrupted and war is going on as it should be. (To keep that simple - else it would be too complex) But why? endless war leads to a easy snowball effect. This is even more heavy in the new system with permits and marks. Normally wars lead to the destruction of ones nation playerbase, this is limited with the truce system and a fixed amount of possible lost regions. Also the biggest nation. (or nations if 2 biggest hold a equal amount of regions) can't form alliances. Because players, atleast some, will allways attack a old ally it will lead sooner or later to a war. Because the biggest nation is open to attack for everyone it will lead to a multifront war against the biggest nation and gamebalance gets a bit restored. In the end you have a combined system between fast, dynamic conquest and a slow conquest of multiple regions.

    Greetings, I am merely wondering why you can first vote for a War with a Nation and then suddenly vote for a Alliance with the same nation. Either you want a War,Peace or a Alliance with a nation and not all 3 at once... That it silly and should not be allowed within the system. Furthermore.... I think its time to change the Politics to stop this 2 block system. Its a stalemate system atm forcing nations to either choose Block 1 or 2 or risk getting bullied by both both blocks and its boring. We need a more dynamic system that allows for changes in stances between nations to allow for more player driven diplomacy. To enable this we need to be able to have a Peace status, Hostile Status and a Neutral/Trade partner status with other nations. War and Alliances should be voted upon. The same for a Peace treaty with a Hostile/War nation. Neutral is any Nation which you have no Treaty with atm. A Peace treaty allows for a reset on hostilties between nations. A Trade agreement may be implemented to allow trade between nations without the use of Smuggling. Stances between Nations! War = Total War, Ships of this nations is tagged as Red on OW and should ofc be targeted to earn points to increase hostility levels and deny the enemy any resources/aid. Peace = Marked as Non Hostile(Blue colour?) on OW and cannot be attacked unless caught smuggling in hostile home waters. Can aid in battles vs Pirates/Privateers. Alliance = Total Friendship, Ships from this nation is marked as Green and can aid in hostile/friendly operations and battles. Cannot be targeted even if caught with smugglers flag in hostile waters. Neutral = Marked as Grey on OW, may be attacked in Hostile home waters and in friendly waters when caught smuggling. Repeted agressions towards a single neutral nation will raise hostility towards that nation and mark you as a privateer for players of that nation thus alerting to them that you are a danger / open target. Perhaps to be able to attack neutral nations you need to obtain a letter of marque from a nation that is hostile towards that nation. Now to restrict the formation of large power blocks we should limit the number of alliances to 1 per nation at any given time(unless we have a developer event that changes it for developer reasons) and peace restricted to 1 nations depending on Voting between nations and very limited extra 1 from a change of status from War/Hostile for a very limited time after hostilities ends and it will change to Neutral. This should lead to some interesting diplomacy talks and perhaps war/peace status to be more fluent then it is now. Ofc checks to stop the 2-3 biggest nation to ally and just stomp out the other nations 1 by 1 need to be implemented. Neutral is the stance towards most other nations, allowing trade access to neutral ports with a taxation unless you have smugglers flag enabled. Pirates should ofc be free to attack anyone they wish and if they obtain a letter of marque they should be able to aid the providing nation vs the nation(s) they have a letter from in OW operations but not in port battles, but be able to do organised raids vs the nation(s) they hold letters for with the aid from the providing nations (Limit the % of participation of non pirate players to stop potential abuse), also pirates with letters of marquee should be able to use certain ports from the nation provides the letters to stage attacks from and resupply. A Pirate with a letter of marquee should be marked as Blue vs players from the nation that provided the letter. Pirates should also be able to do raids vs any nation without any aid from Non pirate players. These are just a starting point to start a discussion on ways we can improve the game and the diplomatic system that is boring atm due to the 2 blocks... With regards Jason Niagara
  6. This post stems from PvP2 balance issues, but I think the issue is just as relevant on PvP1. We have seem multiple times where nations get taken back to 1 port. That kills the game for players of that nation, and they tend to leave - either switching nation, switching server, or stopping playing NA. We don't want to lose anymore players. On PvP2, we recently have a mega-alliance where 75%+ of the players were all part of one alliance. That allows the care-bear alliance to crush however they chose - and France, Sweden, Spain and Denmark are all down to 1 or 2 regions. I would propose a modification to the current aggression or Port Battles that may help limit the effectiveness of mega alliances and stop nations getting reduced to a single region.. I'm suggesting implementing some sort of ratio adjustment based on regions held between the attacking nations that gets applied when defending nations are down to 5 or less regions.. If the attacking alliance controlled 25 regions and they are going against a nation with 5 regions, increase the difficulty in raising aggression by a factor of 5. Then in the PB do a similar thing - by reducing the number of slots for the attacking region.. Smaller nations struggle to fill the 25 ship slots - so once you are down to just 5 regions, limit the number of ships the attacker can enter in the PB by 1 ships for every full ratio point they outnumber the defender in regions held. So if you outnumber the defender 3:1, you lose 2 ship slots, outnumber them 25:1, you only get 1 ship slot... For example: 25 region alliance against 5 region defender - 5:1 ratio - 500% aggression needed to raise PB. 21 slots for attacker in PB, 25 for defender 40 region alliance against 4 region defender - 10:1 ratio - 1000% aggression needed to raise PB. 16 slots for attacker in PB, 25 for defender 50 region alliance against 2 region defender - 25:1 ratio - 2500% aggression needed to raise PB. 1 slot for attacker in PB, 25 for defender Comments and constructive criticism please. Related to this, once you are taken down to just 1 or 2 regions, not only do you struggle to get resources, but you don't have any crafting bonuses. That's one of the negatives of the National capitals having zero crafting bonuses.
  7. I have some concerns in our nation about the clans. Most of the big active clans who doing Port Battles will follow the High Council diplomatic decisions and the High Council decides who is the enemy of the Verenidge Provincien (United Provinces). With the new Alliance patch, I had a heated discussion with my diplomatic representative on the issue if we are to attack any nation listed as enemies of our nation in the Politics tab. I decided to create my own clan to trade and hunt down enemy PvP of our nation if they threaten our trade, even in enemy waters, if that particular nation is branded as enemy of our nation by national vote. I'm concerned about the fact my clan might be branded as a rogue clan, because we not following the rules of the High Council and instead the Politics by national vote. We will attack national ports if its in our interest, despite any diplomatic treaties from the High Council and said enemy nation. Basically, I'm saying I'm not recognizing our nation High Council and will enjoy the game my way. The game was meant to be about port battles and fun, not a bunch of rules and politics. And if they branded me as a rogue clan, what's gonna happen? Will the devs throw the ban hammer or something?

In fact, possibly the oldest alliance in the world. ------------------------------- I'm an Ex-PoTBs player (Pirates of the Burning Sea). I enjoy PVP - and look forward to engaging in as much as possible in Naval Action. That said, I have a deep appreciation for missioning and PVE. And I'm always looking for help from people smarter than I with Economy / Crafting / Trading. All skillsets wanted and needed. The Auld Alliance primary timezone will be North American hours. There is, however, opportunity to have a Admiral come in and take a squadron from EU or AZ timezones. Edit: we now have a dedicated EU Squadron.
