  1. AHA! I figured it out! You have to let the 'Contested Victory Point" meter run down completely! That's how you win at Stones River.
  2. So, I have a bit of a complaint about Stones River. I was playing as the Rebels and I pushed hard, shattering the union army completely and taking less than half casualties. I also managed to take both of the Nashville Pikes but it was quite costly with a large number of my men dead (including poor Stonewall Jackson ) The Union was totally pushed out of the Pike and I had completely secured both points. So imagine my surprise when I'm suddenly way back from where my positions were and the Union has significant reinforcements AND is back in their heavily fortified positions in the next phase, utterly destroying any chance I had at Victory. I feel a bit cheated now. Is it supposed to be like this because if it is, then forgive me, but that is utter crap.
  3. If you have 3 corps of 4 divisions Malvern Hill is actually pretty easy. Dont get me wrong, you'll take casualties.Maybe lose a couple of brigades. But its doable.
  4. I don't know if this will work for everyone but here's my strategy for beating Antietam as the Confederacy. Pull back. Create a defensive line in the town (think the Fishhook at Gettysburg) with as many cannons as possible as close to the front line as possible and sufficient units as a reserve. Keep maybe a division or, if you can swing it, a Corps in the woods directly west of the town. Hold the line, crushing as many Union brigades as possible. Definitely keep some melee cav there as well. With about 130 left on the clock use the units in the woods and push out the far left flank. The infantry is just a distraction while the cavalry takes the objective. Victory is yours. P.S Should note that you pull back after the attack on the stone bridge begins.
  5. That feeling you get when a well planned strategy absolutely crushes the enemy :]
  6. I would just like to point out that the phrase "I hardly doubt" actually means that you're pretty sure about something. Couldn't even get his phrases correct in that self obsessed petulant rant.
  7. I have a few questions. This new dynamic campaign feature, does it only effect individual grand battles (ie, winning Newport News only effects 1st bull run) or does it carry through the entire game? And lastly, if I played and won a battle in version 0.68, do the victories there carry over to this new version? (Like, if I won Harper's Ferry in 0.68, got the new patch, and went to Antietam in 0.70, will the previous victories effect the current battles?). Just a bit curious, loving the game!
  8. Excellent, it took me ages to figure out how to win Antietam and even then I always take massive casualties. I'm just hoping that Fredericksburg will be 2nd Manassas part 2 :]
  9. I'm playing as the Confederacy on Brigadier General difficulty, managed to win all the battles with generally acceptable losses, including Shiloh, Malvern Hill and Antietam. Shiloh was a pretty tough fight but I was able to inflict significantly more casualties on the Union than I received. Until Malvern Hill. Then I lost 23000 men to the Union's 25000. Antietam was a bloodbath as well but the Union got off even worse, 23000 to 62000. Damn this game is fun.
