  1. So you still pretend I was talking about something I wasn't actually talking about then? But fine, let's pretend I was talking about whatever it is you think I meant: Of course casuals lose ships, but unless they're stupid about it they'll lose ships they can afford to lose. So I don't see the issue with it? Unless you support coddling stupid people I don't see how we disagree. You know exactly what I meant with HC and you're moving the goal posts again. Goal posts that you introduced in the first place... A different game? Again, not what I was talking about, but I'm starting to see a theme here. But I agree, the game is going in the wrong direction. My share of PvP is that I and two buddies of mine go out into the home waters of a different nation and attack ships. And since none of us have any interest in PBs or joining a large clan we do so with the resources at our disposal. Which before the reset meant attacking 3rd rates in our Rattlesnakes in front of KPR or taking the occasional trader and now after the reset means boarding a Swedish Renomee just east of Gustavia in our three crafted Fir/Teak Pickles. And no, we didn't tend to lose too many ships as we're careful about what ships we bring (Rattlesnakes are good for running and fore-and-aft rigged ones as well of course) and whom we attack, which is an inherently sane and smart thing to do, no? Unless we specifically set out to do so of course, e.g. every now and then we all used to go out in in capped 1 dura ships to make more room in La Navasse with the specific intent to not bring them back. Is that enough for "my share"? Or is there some sort of line I have to cross to be allowed to speak about how possible it is to do minimal effort PvP when putting in minimal effort into the game? Because, as a reminder that I fear you will ignore again, that is what I was talking about. Casual players doing casual PvP.
  2. Boy oh boy. Reading comprehension is on short supply today, eh? Did I talk about replacing ships, my dear? No? What a shame... No, I talked about what a casual player in this game can do to have a decent enough essentially passive income that will allow him to experience the game in a casual way. Complete with trade, production and ready access to 4th rates and PvP to a certain degree if one is so inclined. Yes this will obviously exclude him from the by necessity more hardcore elements of the game - PB an ready access to SoL most prominently amongst this, unless he joins the occasional screening effort - but if it's supposed to be the goal that everyone can do everything in this game regardless of time and effort put in, then any of the myriad arena style games out there will be better suited for that. It's just a shame that for the time being there is none that offers anything decent for the age of sail itch, eh? It's enough to have generated me the 750k I currently have in the bank, various ships and however much I had to spend on workshop and plantations and such. If that is "piss poor" then the devs failed completely with their changes. But whatever floats your boat... But then you, like RideZ, missed my point entirely there. Of course you can make way more money by doing long trading runs yadda yadda. But my dearest whiner of the entire game up there complained about the game not being playable for "casuals" and people that aren't in a clan, which of course is certified nonsense as per usual. And please, I do my share of PvP with my buddies. Always have, so don't go around assuming. RvR is where I clock out, so yeah I will never comprehend the mind-numbing, earth shattering shock of losing my pixel 1st rate because - and this might shock you just as much, my dear - I couldn't give less of a crap about anything bigger than an Indefatigable and sitting in circles for 90 minutes. Ok maybe I'll do the occasional exception for an Aga because it's an incredible beauty, but neither of the two is all that good for OW PvP anyway. But unfortunately all of this is irrelevant to the point I made, which is that the game is perfectly playable on a casual level. So we conclude: A swing and a miss for both points. Try again.
  3. Yep. it really takes a proper hardcore player to get basic materials from the starting province a few times a week (if that takes more than 10 minute you're doing something VEEEEERY wrong) and turn them into hull and rig repairs at the capital to sell them for a very nice profit while spending the rest of their free time they want to waste on NA to do whatever else they want. Totally inaccessible to everyone but no-lifers that are willing to spend 24/7 of their time in front of NA. Get a grip man. Your whining was ridiculously far removed from reality before the reset but now you somehow managed to make it even worse...
  4. How is that different from NA then? Three of us regularly go into Swedish waters in Pickles and pick up the odd lone 4th rate and traders. How long does it take to get access to a Pickle as a new player? Three hours? Four?
  6. We didn't. No repairs inside and no repairs left for any of us and the revenge fleet outside. Had to scuttle it.
  7. Alright, the current way of rewarding only kills and assist makes PvP highly annoying. I mean I get not being able to sustain yourself on just fighting, sure, but this is not the way. This is especially true as I am easily able to do this - sustain myself and grow my fortune - when grinding boring PvE missions over and over again. Even ignoring getting skill books from doing this. Whereas in PvP the risk and damage outside of a straight up gank makes this highly unlikely. Even more so for the person that is being attacked. Example. Decided to have some fun, so we sailed into Swedish waters in our three Pickles. Found a guy in a Renomee, took him on, after a slog of 80 minutes (made some mistakes, could've been quicker about it but that's besides the point) we captured him. With the repairs we all used and the crew losses, we either made a slight loss or a very slight profit of the fight. Roughly 7k to 9k each, while we also used 7k to 9k worth of repairs (calculated at base production cost, would be even worse if we had to buy them). Oh and we got 2 Combat Marks each, lol. Mind that at the same time we could, all of us, have gotten multiple times that by boring PvE mission grinding. And a whooole lot of money to boot. But the Swede? What did he get for not just surrendering and trying to make it a fight? What did he get for fighting and nearly sinking two of us? Nothing. Nada. Null. Zilch. Ridiculous. This just adds insult to injury and adds a completely unnecessary level of "sting" to getting killed. Please rethink the kill/assist thing for PvP. And if alt-farming is the issue... I don't know. But this shouldn't be it. Thank you.
  8. Jop.
Insult to injury und so.
  15. To the attention of those concerned. My employers, the most delectable Gentlemen of the H-E Co., would like to announce to their generous shareholders and other interested parties that after a fruitful winter and hurricane season refitting and restocking their Ships and Valiant Hands, the most Magnanimous Gentlemen of the H-E Co. return to remunerative commerce. The captains in the employ of the most illustrious Gentlemen of the H-E Co., having been torn thus from their loving Ladies' ample and bountiful bosoms, are now returned to the service of the aforementioned Equitable Shareholders and other Interested Parties. To celebrate this delightful occasion, two of the aforesaid captains commissioned by the most Tremendous and Forthright Gentlemen of the H-E Co., namely a N. Terkildsen and a certain H. v. Martius, proceeded to inspect the manifests and muster lists of Swedish shipping in the Leeward Islands. One disreputable cur, whom God Himself hath abandoned, was found in flagrant breach of all maritime law and custom and consequently forfeited their ship and cargo without recompense. Oh!, but how lax has the customs become in Our Absence. Hurrah to Commerce and Entrepreneurship! on behalf of the Prodigious Gentlemen of the H-E Co., Regards etc etc H. v Martius
  16. Good to hear we won't get the bubble. I have to admit that every time I see people argue for a PvE only server I ask myself the same question. Is there even an economy that can sustain people selling ships and mods? I mean who and how do people lose enough ships to keep that market going? To each their own and so on, but I don't understand it.
  17. I guess they're unwilling to put in fantasy ports for the other nations. And yes, if the idea is to have the PvE bubble as the "economic backbone" then I'd like to add that to the top of my worries about this being a bad change to the game.
  18. I haven't and I don't really plan on doing so, but that's good to know.
  19. A care-bear isn't necessarily a crafter though. In fact I know plenty of crafters on PvP1 that do a lot of PvP. Which is to say that you entirely missed the point of that statement, but please continue to be offended. I think it's primarily about the number of players per server. And like admin wrote in the OP, the hope is to maybe get some PvE people to eventually dare to do PvP as well. At least on some level.
  20. This horrible forum software is stopping me from structuring this post the way I like it. I could never get used to how it handles quoting. Sorry if it looks wonky in places. I'm all for the wipe. Don't get me wrong. In fact I was one of the people that was asking for a full wipe along with the economy changes late last year. Exactly It shouldn't be, or the things that have been mentioned multiple times here will likely break it for the rest of the game world. But from all the info we have and from what we have in this thread it seems - to me at least - they want to set it up in such a way that as someone only interested in PvE I can play in the Gulf bubble and be fine. Which then leads back to all the things that have been mentioned over and over again. As for towing ships, that's simply a paid teleport. Kinda like you can send resources from one Freeport to another for a fee, only it works with every single port as long as the destination has an outpost and that isn't hostile. For towing to not be gamebreaking with a self-sustaining bubble in the world, they'd need to disable the towing thing from PvE-to-PvP (and vice versa) and, l like you said, the TP as well. But that still leaves us with a bubble that is either not really viable for solely PvE players to use or the only viable place to do any economy stuff, thus essentially wiping the rest of the world clear of any normal shipping. Quick edit. Slingshotting, as in sending ships to outposts after a battle, on the other side of the divide between the two modes needs to be disabled as well obviously. Quick edit over. As for EvE. Every single thing in the game (goods, money, game-time, ships, clothing for your toon, corpses, you name it) is an actual thing that has to be shipped. Period. There is no teleporting of any goods whatsoever. And you can get attacked and destroyed anywhere at any time. Literally. Sure, your attacker will die as well if he attacks you in the NPC protected areas in the centre of the gameworld, but you will be dead and your goods floating in space to be picked up the friends of the guy that just blew you to pieces. Fantastic system as far as I am concerned, but not really for everyone. Also has the massive boon of being fairly unique as far as MMOs go so that helps it make seem more magical than it really is. And if you think people use words "care-bear" or "PvE" with scorn or disdain here, you really never did come across an EvE discussion, eh? Separated servers would be the only way, IMO. Which clearly they no longer want to. Any combination of forced PvE zones with PvP in the rest of the world surrounding can only end with both sides on the matter being unhappy unfortunately, I think. Heck, the Greenzone around the capital was a mistake already. I mean, assuming I would only be into PvE and really not like the idea of other people being able to disrupt me, I'd hate that I could "only" do so in the Gulf and not see the rest of the map. So even with this weird bubble on the map PvE players will be limited in their enjoyment even if they have all the resources in there. Especially since the Gulf is really boring for sailing, what's with the continuous coast and endless stretches of water with absolutely nothing in them in the middle.
  21. No, people would use it to spy and troll. And it would totally break the economy and the entire idea behind having different ports produce different resources. So you do not PvP tag yourself and trade and transport your ships without any danger. Utter nonsense, sorry. That's an even worse idea than having a certain area of the map be PvP disabled.
  22. 1. If they do not include all resources in the PvE zone it'll be impossible for PvE players to play the game. And that's something they likely want to avoid. So they will have to have all resources in there. Thus the zone becomes self-sustaining and thus it's a care-bear zone of perfect security. LeBoiteux explained some of the issues with that that I see as well after your post in way better detail than I can be bothered to go into right now. The worst is, that if they keep the towing mechanic you can literally have a perfectly 100% secure shipyard and trading area and then just send the ships over to where you want to sell them with absolutely no risk. Yay... And let's not forget that all this really does is promote the use of Economy alts that sit snug and save in the Gulf to supply the PvP area/your clan/your main character with ships and no way for your enemies to stop you from doing so. Again, some people will probably like that this will increase the amount of "organised" PvP, I realise that and I can respect that. But that's not what I for one want from the game. Which, again, is fine and all, I'm neither whining nor demanding anything, but in the end it would simply mean I would get bored and leave. That's just a fact of life. 2. Again, if they want a PvE zone that is viable for PvE players that means it'll have to be self-sustaining, making your point moot. And geez, imagine what will happen on this forum and in the reviews and with the player numbers if one of the two zones has a set of resources the other won't. A weapon shitstorm to surpass Metal Gear. 3. It's massively different, mate. As in I can still attack players next to towers. If I am willing and able to pull it off they're an added factor of danger not a 100% protection. They do not make it utterly impossible to attack. I mean if I wanted to I could do a suicide run with a fireship then the towers would actually be helping me. What you can compare it with is running for the Green zone around the capitals, which represent a total protection from attackers and are equally as annoying from a gameplay perspective. Well then again they buffed the towers and forts on testbed so I guess they want them to be total ship interdiction systems after all... 4. That's amiable and I salute your ability to like things you don't like, but I don't see how or why I should force myself to like proposed changes when I see major issues with them to be honest. I will try the game after the changes, but I don't see how this will create an enjoyable environment.
  23. First time I've seen this topic. I... I'm really concerned that the proposed game-world changes will split and wither an already severely depleted player count even further. Making the gulf a care-bear zone essentially removes that entire bit of the map for me as nothing of interest is to be found there. Ok, an abstract concern given how huge the gameworld is. But this is going to have serious effects on the economy. To keep it viable for PvE players you'll end up with all the relevant resources in the care-bear zone. So... why have any economy at all in the PvP area? Why run that risk? If I just want to make money, I'll go there and be save. If I want to be annoying, I'm going to use the care-bear zone border as a way to escape my enemies. That essentially neuters the entire rest of the map for anything but organised PvP. I guess that's fun and fine for some folks, but I know that it's equally as sterile and boring for many others. Yeah, yeah. We'll see how it'll play out. But I for one am not overly optimistic. :/
  24. No, I continue to be at a loss. More than one spoiler with screenshots results in spoiler-ception and it looks exactly like yours. But thank you for your efforts, I guess I'll need to either limit myself to one spoiler and leave them out completely in the future.
  25. No, I'm sorry. I am utterly unable to get that to work for some reason. First attempt had two o's in the second spoiler, but removing them completely and starting from scratch does the above. /edit Since for some reason the option to display the bare text without formatting isn't available to us, could you take a screenshot of a post with two working spoilers before you post it, Liquicity? Maybe that way I can see where our methods differ.
