  1. As someone who reads the forums every day and contributes positively to discussions, I am so sad about this decision. I enjoy the forums as much as I enjoy the game! I see this, alas, as a move that will not help the game's survival...
  2. the current looting mechanic is my LEAST favorite part of this game - and most unrealistic. In real life, a ship would send ships boats to loot, take prisoners, and often speed the sinking of the beaten ship. It would seem to me that in game the closest ship to a beaten enemy could hit a loot button, see a temporary reduction in crew, have their own ship glide to a stop, and after 2 or 3 minutes recover their crew and the looted cargo. Their own ship would be helpless until the recovery timer ended. That would duplicate the sending and recovery of ships boats. Thoughts? If the devs even contemplate the gentle leeway of derelicts, I wish they would contemplate this solution to looting.
  3. Here is the full experiment (German) and it shows that a cannonball did not penetrate lo/wo even at a 15 distance (starts at 30 mins) https://www.zdf.de/dokumentation/terra-x/die-korsaren-freibeuter-der-meere-100.html
  4. I wish we could access this documentary in English - anyone able to supply the link? Actually I question the experiment....the target wall is propped to upright using 2 flimsy braces, which would give more easily that of the target were part of a larger structure. Also, it is hilarious seeing them stuff grass down a muzzle for wadding. Makes one wonder how careful their other methods were...
  5. Ran off a hotspot for 2 hours with no disconnect. Returned to Frontier and have had more disconnects. Weirdly, in the PZ just now, disconnected near end of long battle, and when I recovered I was in the OW and had earned 0 xp. Which was the point of the PZ. I would have had at least enough for 10 combat medals. I may to quit this game (sigh)
  6. Yes, the problem still exists, but it gets better and worse sporadically. Two days ago I had 2 disconnects in 5 hours of play. Yesterday I must have had 20 or more in the same amount of time. I will run another game session tomorrow off a borrowed hotspot to confirm that the disconnects only happen when playing through my Frontier ISP...if that is the case, is there a course of action you recommend? And if I have disconnects while on a non-Frontier hotspot, what would that tell us?
  7. yes, it has been happening for two weeks now, but with such irregularity. Some sessions I will hardly disconnect at all; others I will disconnect so frequently that I give up on playing. Within the same session, I may go as long as 30 minutes without a disconnect, and then get several within 10 minutes. Should I contact my ISP provider? Wipe and reinstall my game? Ask for a different router? I have had other disconnects that happen when I first enter battle, or first enter the open world. Those disconnects take longer to recover from. These new ones, thankfully, happen but then I reconnect and resume gameplay within 45 seconds - sometimes the other players do not even notice. It has actually been an interesting gameplay expereince - no enemy expects me to suddenly drop all sails and hit a speedbreak like that lol/
  8. Yes...after a full day yesterday of playing, with the disconnecting continuing randomly, I borrowed a friend's hotspot and the game did not disconnect for the full hour I ran the computer that way. My computer accesses the internet off a landline (Frontier), while the hotspot accessed the internet from a different provider - Verizon. What does that mean for resolving the problem? Thanks for your help!
  9. Disconnected 13 times in 2 hours - 10:35, 10:37, 10:49, 11:02....CST....you get the picture. If it was not for the rapid RECONNECTS, the game would be literally unplayable for me, after 3500 hour in game. I hope we can get this figured out...
  10. Played 90 minutes tonight, had 10 random, rapidly resolved disconnects. Makes the game almost unplayable now. Here are the first few reports: NAS 1404483 5.33 CST NAS 1404490 5:46 CST NAS 1404496 6:12 CST NAS 1404504 6:20 CST also it disconnected at 6.25, 6.32,6.45,6.57. 6/55 and 6.59 when I gave up. What other info would you need to help fix this?
  11. Just logged in and while in port disconnects began. NAS-1404021...my machine is in Dallas Tx area
  12. For the past week I have been having frequent, random disconnects, though teamspeak stays online, so the internet is not dropping. These disconnects happen under multiple conditions. I cannot force the disconnects by any particular action. I disconnect in open world sailing, in port, and in battle. When this happens, I can reconnect immediately and I reenter within a few seconds. I do lose the to-date battle summary (my hits etc are reset to zero) but I still get about the right amount of xp, and credit for ships I sank earlier in the fight. There have been a couple of days in this week where I did not disconnect at all. Then other days I can disconnect 4 or 5 times within 5 minutes. This is very annoying, though I can still play the game. I have a high-end video card, and my ping rate is stable at 100. Any suggestions? Last occurred last night around 11:30 CST.

  14. Welcome to the game! There IS an excellent players guide, with a link in the forums. Maybe someone has the link offhand, and can post it for our friend here? Also, you need to hook up with a clan, and get on your nation's Teamspeak. Many seasoned players, myself included, enjoy orienting new players and many clans specialize in equipping, resourcing, and training new players. It is so much easier when you can talk with someone. If you happen to be USA, look me up in game.
  15. I suspect that there is a sweet spot with the snow where a reduction in its capabilities would make it enjoyable but not OP. Perhaps 5% reduction in speed? A tinkering with the sail profile? Seems to me the snow/stern camping is the single highest generator of complaints in the game atm.
  16. i believe you can get this on Amazon Prime. Good movie, actually.
  17. A new building? Can you give us a hint? Will the number of buildings we can have be increased? As for trading, the current mission structure works for me. Hauling items across the map does not.
  18. I agree. Some player names are vulgar, and some players do have children that play on occasion. I would appreciate a way to report an offensive name.
  19. Hmmm...but could a NATION issue a letter of marque to another NATION...and get the benefits outlined above? Be an easy way to get to alliances?
  20. Two cents worth: 1) If we need more players and marketing to the Chinese would bring some in, that would be a good thing. I would think marketing would include a distinctive Chinese ship, and a safe Chinese colony area. They would need a 55 point port of their own. I know it would not be historical, but it could be alt-history.... 2) I think game balance would be helped if every nation's safe capital was a 55 point port. As it is now, nations without a 55 point port cannot build ships that are competitive with the current leading nations. 55 point ports were located away from capitals because the devs wanted to maximize OW travel, encouraging battles. But the decline in player population tells us that the game is declining, and at least a part of that is the lack of a 55 point port for every nation. Upgrading national capitals to 55 points would give the lesser nations the HOPE of regaining competitiveness. IMHO.
  21. on a brighter side, two of us US players left Shroud Cay last night, came across an enemy, and had a delightful pre-battle conversation with him while we waited for an ally of his to show us and have an equal fight, which was a lot of fun. We could have ganked him, but it was more fun to choose to wait for more equal odds. We need to model the behavior we seek in others...
  22. It was immediately after the engagement started - several ships joined the battle in the first 90 seconds, and then 4 were locked out. We thought as many could enter in the first 2 minutes as wanted to - up to 25 - but wondered if that had changed...
  23. A question came up last night when ships that tried to join a new OW battle within the 2 minute limit were locked out. Has the 2 minute time when a new battle is open for all still the same? Or has it been changed?
  24. Thank you for this clarification. We understand now that it will take time to move hostility generation fully to clan based mechanics. But this means of bypassing the Frontline Mechanic WILL be fixed before release. yes? It is too bad we cannot see how Frontlines would have worked, and are intended to work. How WOULD rats and France work their way onto the US coast, for instance? Would they have had to start down in Florida and fight their way up the coast? We may never know until game release...
  25. I am not in favor of punishment, but I am in favor of a simple reversion of ports taken by exploit to neutral status, so we can test the mechanic of frontlines the way it was intended to be. No need for 'punishment'...just fairness.
