Penetration and gun rebalance - review
derekticus replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
On the original posted graphs, I don't see all the lines - 8 gun types are listed in the key, but only 7 lines of data on the graph... Leads to confusion -
I understand your frustration with the PvP Server, I played there for years, but gave it up and now fully enjoy the PvE Server. (And my blood pressure has come WAY down!) On PvE you get to fight when and where you want. There are many different levels of difficulty you can choose - there are solo AI Ships, Fleeted AI Ships, Elite AI Ships. For a Group hunt there are Raid missions and the Trincomalee 8+2 home "Privateer" Fleets to engage. You can sail the entire map without fear of getting ganked; trading or fighting as you see fit. You can join a Clan and then get to participate in a Defensive Port Battle when the AI Raiders get active, or, you can Group up and do Hostilities on any Neutral Port, then join the Port Battle the next day! And you can do whatever you wish - Craft to your hearts delight, or make up activities: the other day our Clan sponsored an Indiaman race around the island of Puerto Rico - everyone paid an entry fee and then sailed their Indiaman in an attempt to take the Prize - both Doubloons and a Special Ship were up for grabs. It was a blast!! In PvE you and your Clan mates create the fun and content; much more satisfying, welcoming and friendly than PvP. Come join us if you dare!

I think they are either building a railroad or a canal across Cuba, that way Ships can "teleport" rather than sail around ...

@admin I would like to suggest another influx of realism into the game, by having MORE Econ Delivery Missions offer Doubloons in payment for the successful completion of the delivery, BUT, the Doubloon portion of the reward would only be paid out if the Delivery is expedited: Maybe 1 day for a 3 day Passenger delivery; and 3 Days for a 10 day Cargo delivery.

defense Port Battle Defense
derekticus replied to Bubba Smith's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
As a member of the FPM Clan on PvE, I would add the following comment: We (FPM) are a very big and very active Clan, and even though we have co-ordinated Battle Plans and use Comms during the "Defend Against the RAIDERS" Port Battles; wins for us are not common. I don't see a small Clan as having even the slightest chance to win vs the RAIDERS. Which means that these smaller Clans/Nations don't even bother attempting to defend their Ports. Which makes the RAIDERS Port Battles a moot point - simply uncontested wins. -
Refit permit for wood upgrade
derekticus replied to Hugh Latham's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
yes, agreed! "Fine Woods 3.0" implementation tells me we are still in the testing phase of Development. Also, why is the Leopard given such Thickness? Is she a 3rd Rate in disguise?!?? (I'll hold my breath until she is NERFed ) -
Can't fit book in open knowledge slot on PVE server
derekticus replied to Reorx Redbeard's topic in Support
I have had similar issues, they always resolve themselves after a few "try the books in a different order" and "log-offs/log-ons" ... -
Permit pricing as balancing the nations
derekticus replied to OjK's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Because the game has so many Alts, what @admin should be tracking is not "How many Russians logon per day / week" or "How many Dutch logon per day / week" but rather "How many Player hours are spent as Russians per day / week" and "How many Player hours are spent as Dutch per day / week." This way, if I have 3 Alts and use each one at least once per day / week, but play 4 hours as a Russian and 1 hour each as Dutch and British: Rather than counting Population as "1 Russian, 1 Dutch and 1 Brit", count it as "4 Russian, 1 Dutch and 1 Brit." In this way you will glean a much more realistic view of the National population situation. -

Pre-Release Server Status Information
derekticus replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
@admin Congratulations! I was very happy to see the "Fleeting of DLC Ships" Exploit corrected. Looking forward to the Release!! -
My last question / suggestion is that the game get promoted or advertised: Otherwise there may NOT be any surge of new Players coming in upon "Release," and this game desperately NEEDS a surge of new Players to make it successful. I also would hope that us veterans will see it to police ourselves and NOT engage in Capitol area "Seal-Clubbing" of the newbie Players as they do their initial AI missions and scurry aimlessly to and fro. Otherwise, many of the new Players will be simply driven away in frustration, as they won't know the history or the fact that we were completely Wiped. This will have to be an individual decision made by each and every one of us for it to work... Here's to hoping the game will not be DOA.

Specialized shipyards/building
derekticus replied to Magnus Baldur's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
No time to test this, and how would a "joe" player know which Ships belong to which Nation (according to the Devs) ? If you want Specialization, make it so a Level 1 Shipyard only Produces 6ths and 7ths; a Level 2 only Produces 4ths and 5ths; and a Level 3 only Produces SOLs. This, however, would force ALL Crafters to buy the "Extra Buildings" (Admiralty Connections?) DLC ... The idea seems to be a non-starter.- 2 replies

Maybe Sextant should be free to all, not just "folks who bought after a certain date." -
Port timers and town conquering
derekticus replied to Queen007's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Poor idea. Non-starter -
I think the Port Battles need to change the Map, unless 99% of the map is Neutral, but a Neutral Map might be too boring. As per War server, Player's could do Hostility missions, (and a new mechanic - the ANTI Hostilities Mission could be added to allow the Attacked Nation a way to respond), to try and generate Port Battles in certain locations. But maybe there would be a limit to 2-3 PBs for any one Nation over the course of a week. If Players fail to generate Hostilities, then random Ports would be chosen for a Nation's offensive Port Battles. THEN, the Ports involved in a Port Battle would have a 2 week cool-down before fresh Hostilities could be generated there. This way there could be battles to control the Rare Wood Ports, and other Ports of value. Additionally, Players should be made aware, when they visit any Port, that it IS a Rare Wood Port no matter which Nation owns it. Port Battles can be AI v Players, as suggested elsewhere. OR, there could be 2 simultaneous Port Battles, one for each Nation, all vs AI, and the Nation that wins the quickest is determined to have won the PB. Maybe with this mechanic the Players would ALWAYS take the side of the Attacking Nation, to keep things on a level.

I watched a posted YouTube video in which a Naval Action player opened 3-4 Deadman's Chests in a single sitting. I suggest that, just like the "Sealed Bottle" wrecks, each player should be limited to gathering only one Deadman's Chest per Fleet Wreck event. This will give more people an incentive to "make that run" and, therefore, it could increase the chance that Fleet Events will become hotter PvP opportunities. As it stands now, players simply decide NOT to travel there because, "The Fleet appeared 40 mins ago, so it will already be completely empty, and I will be wasting my time making the trip."

R-Zone Clan Supplied Port Defense Suggestion
derekticus replied to angriff's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
True - some Nations have no Home Port... -
I don't understand what you are saying here. Usually when you click on a Battle (Crossed swords) in the OW, you see 2 circles - one will reinforce Nation A, the other, Nation B. Entering either circle can allow you to enter the Battle, but AI will not be drawn in with you. AI only get drawn in when the battle created - and then the AI come in only if they are of the same Nation as the participants. If you are seeing more than 2 circles it probably is a bug. Use "F11" and get a screen shot.
