  1. Whale oil is a major resource, hoping it's included in an economy overhaul. I voted for active whaling at first but changed it because it was done by lowering boats and chasing with oar and hand thrown harpoon. Not really practical, and I don't want just find it and click it.
  2. We're early in a very ambitious and tasteful undertaking. Those of us who already love it will spend tons in a "pay to decorate" cash shop. Devs don't need a wake up call or warning. OP's comparison is worth thinking about. Maybe not as a comparison. Potbs doesn't sound as serious at NA. But will they go highly structured and technical like a massively micromanaged game of total war napoleon islands map? Or player driven insanity that people tell stories of and has to hire an economist?
  3. 1. Avoiding pvp when you don't want it can be fun and rewarding in itself. Awareness and strategy keep sailing fresh. 2. Rather than intrusive restrictions keep a reasonable chance of escape based on tactics. Make a surrender that has pros and cons for both sides, doesn't work if she ship is irreversibly sinking or burning.
  4. A step toward this could be full zoom being a little lower and off center? I'd prefer to look under/around than through transparency. Cabin scenery would be nice for pause menu. I can imagine putting custom ship names on the model takes some work. But maybe you name a ship, shows in interface and you get it under your name onscreen like a title. Then we know if our regular m8 has the one with fir and longs or live oak and carronades. MIssion target could be an actual ship/fleet? Stationary or circling.

  6. I would like the battle area and the ow to match as much as possible. That's what makes it more than a shooting gallery.

  9. I voted for porting to outpost the same as port to capital, but I also favor the current long cool down for it. planning and ow sailing would still be required but you could get the occasional shortcut, could save it for pb if you want to be a good dude.
  10. The game can be epic without everyone being lovey-dovey but the alpha test feedback isn't helped by getting childish.
  11. "Try some self control". Good example of what kind of thing derails a discussion. It's better to exchange perspectives than insults.
  12. A real pirate only wants to get paid, drunk and laid. If the game steps it up to "war against the world" that doesn't translate to 25 brigs fighting 25 victories. Scaling up the realistic situation would mean nationals still have the same chance of being born to the wrong family and if a large ship can be spared to the carribean pirates would just run away from it. Making the pirate faction completely untenable will just replace them with another overwhelming faction. And if the Russians are so averse to western nations they'll just leave if there's no hope of personal parity. Make it a more subtle handicap that can be overcome but makes pirates less inviting to those on the fence. There should either be flavor stats like Age of Empires or the officer market should be faction specific and be the one thing the devs micromanage.
