This is very true. In addition to all that you said, i think that a severe disadvantage came to him becasue of the lack of J.E.B Stuart's cavalry. Because of this, he lost a priceless pair of scouting eyes that might have given him more information as to the location of Meade's troops. However, i agree with you in that it would not have accomplished anything even if he had won as by this point, the Union was clearly outnumbering them.

I also think it would be cool to have sort of a skill set for your captain. For example. when first starting, you could pick say, sailing, and in that case, sail maneuvering might be a bit quicker. Or gunnery, with a faster reload time. I don't know, just thinking out loud here.

I would love a compass rose on the world map. It would make hard navigation a little easier without removing any of the realism.
