  1. Shame. It's a potential iteration certainly worth looking into if the small studio in naval action can afford the resources & time. I wish I had known that sooner though. I can't find any good links to dev news or blogs about this game. And I had no idea that naval action was a small studio. That certainly changes alot in the scope of things they are capable of doing in terms of implementing new content. Guess I'll just have to put with sea battles, capturing forts, faction wars, jumping a rando trader, attacking a rando pirate for some nice booty. And in the previous posts, I still agree in atleast improving the current 2d menu into something more appealing than just staring at a blank, baseless screen with a few tabs and buttons. I certainly won't be happy if the menu doesn't get any improvements by the time this game releases. That's just asking for bad first impressions. But I hold my faith for this studio. They have great potential to do great things.
  2. Edit: I'll take down the poll. Focus more on discussing how to bring some life into the ports, towns & land mass areas instead of the current 2d menu form. I would like to see more visual improvements but thats just me.
  3. I was just wondering if the devs have discussed further plans to make the towns/ports become more interactive. Past from the current 2d Menu state. Into something like an actual 3D Port that you can roam around with many differing locations: Warehouse, Tavern, Brothel, forts, houses, governors mansions etc. You could even bring some life into the land mass and make instanced areas as jungles with wildlife, hidden special locations, hideouts. One could go wild with ideas into making naval action's lands become more lifelike rather than just coming into port and transitioning into a 2d menu. And also if the devs have ever considered bringing in FPS into naval action. I guess for now having first person view in ports and the ability to run around checking out the locations would be an awesome addition to more content that is planned for this game. What do you guys think? P.S I just realized how much bigger in game file size this would be if implemented with more content into the huge open world map with all that land mass. Wow. I mean gosh that would be a big undertaking. I have faith in our Naval action devs
  4. I would like to propose a new poll on prioritizing server stability, performance & range in many differing regions around the world that are currently not available to Naval action such as: South America, Africa, Middle east, Japan, Korea, North Asia, South East Asia & Oceania. Essentially once this game gets bigger in popularity and player numbers, the devs in naval action are going to have to start thinking about accommodating more stable servers that can handle high loads to prevent unstable packet loss & lag from happening. Ofcourse you can't fully stop lag from occuring. It is inevitable and will happen regardless of what measures the devs takes. Then there's also the consideration of providing the best of both worlds to all players playing Naval action across 1000 miles around the world. Currently the 2 regions accessible are NA & EU. This is acceptable in the current testing phase. But it will be quickly frowned upon once the game goes live. Because ship enthusiasts around the world want to experience a lagless gameplay with low latency. They don't want to waste their time having to deal with 200+ ms latencies playing in a region thats thousands of miles away from them. Most would'nt even bother. Having to play in a PvP oriented game with high latency is no fun. Thinking in a bigger picture this has a direct effect on what customers you can lure to buy your product which would influence the profits to be made by the buying customers . With limiting accessible regions to the 2 most popular and trendy areas today that is EU & NA, it doesn't bode well for naval actions bright future. Sure it's only at its early stage but that excuse is used way too often with these early access games. I presented a thread in the suggestions section of this forums about this subject but it didn't gain much traction with little to no interest from the community or the naval action devs. Which is fine. At this stage other more important core aspects of the game should be prioritized first before thinking about upgrading the servers so it's more stable for the player's enjoyment. And unfortunately I only know too well how much resources and money it costs for publishers & dev companies to maintain multiple server locations around the world. Nothing comes without a price as they say. One last concern I have about lag and high latency with Naval action is, since at the moment there are only 2 regions playable and there are no IP block restrictions in effect. Literally anyone around the world could play outside the specified region at a cost of having a high laggy latency. Which to most's opinion here wouldn't count for much in affecting the gameplay of ship battles, sailing, gun firing response times etc. And add to that there's a bit of lag experienced in the main menu as well - switching between tabs, moving items around, surfing the lists etc. It's roughly around 1.5-2 sec delay with my latency. When I started playing naval action I thought "wow what a beautiful world this game has to offer" and immediately I knew that sailing with these historic yet awesome ships was going to be tonnes of fun. Then came the realization of my latency, then the delayed response times started to take affect - delays in sailing response, guns firing, skill action responses (crew, gunnery, sails, repairs etc). And this right there ended the enjoyment for me. Nobody likes to play a laggy game. Although in Naval Action it is almost negligable yet still noticeable and I am willing to play 100s of hours to test everything but that ever persistent lag will just limit my fun factor for this game. I play from Oceania (aus) and for many years now most MMOs/online games that I choose to take part with are all conveniently accessible in NA as is the closest location in terms of latency from Aus. Sometimes I get lucky and find servers in West Coast in places like los angeles, san francisco, or even texas. Latencies around these areas are a little better but still present minor lag. Still a better experience than having to deal with East Coast NA latencies which I believe is the current location for Naval Action NA. So to end it all: I just hope the devs in naval action consider the quality of their servers & how many regions will be accessible well before this game goes live. Deciding to do this afterwards is just a rookie mistake and will cost you alot of players & customers. I trust you guys will make the right decisions and I have faith this game will become successful as I envision it to be. I mean how many 18th century ship MMOs out there can you mention that has this amazing graphics at an alpha stage with this much content? I sure can't find any. Seems to be a niche genre. But I still love it.
  5. Hey guys. I am very new to the Naval action and loving it at the moment. Got myself a nice little basic cutter and been doing missions for gold & exp. The first thing I noticed is the latency lag in this game. Especially the response times to moving the ship's controls and gun firing response. I play from australia & already I see a few aus players in these forums chatting about the game and this brings delight to my eyes. I play from NA PVE server & get 225ms latency. Which is not bad in overall responsive gameplay. But what is greatly affected is the rudder, changing of sails, speed changes (the ship delays in response to change in speeds so if I want it to slow down from full, it'll take like 3 seconds to respond and start to slow down), and most importantly gun firing response. At this point it's just an annoyance. But later down the track I can see this as more of a hindrance to more competitive players who don't have the privilege to play near the servers. Especially when you're commanding a speedy brig or frigate that's more agile than the bigger ships (I want that 1st rate so bad! So many guns!). Like all other MMOs latency is a bane to anyone's gameplay whenever they try to play an online game miles away from the server location. I really wish there was a way to fix this but I guess current constraints in technology prevents such an improvement. This thread is more of a discussion within the community & devs alike (if they are inclined to join in the discussion) on what options could possibly help reduce the burden of lagged gameplay in Naval Action. The simplest solution I can think of and is already in the dev's corner of thinking is establishing region based servers around the world. Already you guys have covered NA & EU. I'm sure as time goes RU will also open. Maybe Japan. Maybe Asia (Indonesia perhaps)? And in time maybe Oceania. So that's one way. But how about Cloud-based servers? Would that be feasible for Naval Action? I don't know much about this type of network system but here's a link of the benefits of implementing one. https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/cloud/cloud_servers.htm - could be worth considering for development. And lastly, Client side calculations or prediction. I've only had one experience with this feature. A control physics function that simulates instant response times in controls including gun firing but at the cost of un-synced results. Like shooting at an enemy's broadside where you can just get your back cannons to aim & hit at his stern before he gets away and you see the splash hit but no damage is registered. Since client side has priority in response, it takes quite abit of time for the inputs to reach the server due to your latency. This is also open to "hacking" methods and I suggest not considering this option unless you can provide extra security to your servers. If successfully implemented, this feature could help alot of the players with latencies over 200ms+ but only to a point that improves the "visual" response times since server side inputs are still in effect. So just to recap the options are: More region based servers Cloud based servers Client side prediction There are probably more solutions that I can't think of. Please share your opinion and ideas about this topic as I feel it is a relative concern for those who play at such high latencies. Considering the early stage of this game I am more than satisfied with the current server performances. But maybe later down a few considerations to improve the servers in Naval Action could take place. Poll included as well.
