  1. Legendary CSA campaign

As some of you have noticed I started a Legendary campaign as the Confederacy, the goal being to provide a few tips to our community. If you have any request / advice to give I'll gladly consider them. In all honesty I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to end it since this mode is very challenging, especially on the latest patch, but it never hurts to try. Here is part 1 Part 2 : and part 3. Enjoy, generals !
  2. Legendary CSA campaign

I will, sorry for the delay I'm moving atm and don't have enough time to play the game, let alone recording/editing. I'm past Cold Harbor and I believe I have good chances at beating the campaign. The AI will have minimum manpower (245k men total if I recall) so despite the heavy losses I'll take before it should be feasible.
  3. Why is Civil war so hard for beginners?

Have you tried watching LPs on youtube ? There's a lot to learn from them. I agree there's a steep learning curve but once you start to master it the game is really fun.
  4. Legendary CSA campaign

It's not the fortifications themselves, they're pretty fine, it's the way they're positioned. You're forced to cover a huge ground and the AI can attack them from cover. Since I needed two strong wings I had to defend a smaller area with my center, hence the initial retreat.
  5. Legendary CSA campaign

Jackson has been uploaded, just went home from holidays and I was eager to bring this one ASAP to make up for my absence. A few typos and grammar mistakes here and there so apologies in advance for that.
  6. Battle of Washington

From what I've seen there's a minimum number of enemy troops for each battle to avoid steam-rolling the AI. So if the army stat is below said minimum the AI will still field a certain number. It should be displayed in-game somewhere but otherwise I kinda understand why the mechanic is here
  7. Legendary CSA campaign

We're now at Gettysburg gents. Time to lick the Yanks on their own soil
  8. Legendary CSA campaign

@drhay53 It's all about using them cheats . More seriously if you can tell me which example you're referring to I'll be able to give a more useful explanation. Cavalry tutorial is here as promised.
  9. What are the finer points of dismounted cavalry?

Personally not a fan of dismounted cav except for a few rare situations : being charged while in woods, having to hold your ground when no one else can do it, and shooting at artillery from cover. Other than that cav is always better mounted imo since it can easily run away to avoid getting shot and can also quickly get on a brigade's flank.
  10. Legendary CSA campaign

Salem Church has just been uploaded. Enjoy
  11. Legendary CSA campaign

@civsully1 The Union is already very timid in it's assaults when it has full numbers so depleting them on the first day would make them even more hesitant. On 2nd day I have a strong position and good numbers so I really wanted the Yanks to attack me to hurt their army size long term. @A. P. Hill Noted, I'll extend the commentaries's duration. Sometimes it's hard because I don't want to have commentaries while the camera's moving but I'll find a way.
  12. Legendary CSA campaign

@civsully Meagre Heart gave you the answer, I remember putting it somewhere but I'm too lazy to check Pt. 20 is up
  13. Legendary CSA campaign

Ckickamauga is very hard indeed but I really enjoy this battle. Finished it last week hopefully I'll be able to upload it soon enough.
  14. Legendary CSA campaign

That's partly the answer, thanks for chiming in. The other important thing is that it's better to have lots of units to increase maneuverability and tactical options. For every ten brigades I therefore get a 'free' brigade of 2000 men if that makes any sense. I was away for the week-end but I'm currently working on Chancelorsville which is 75% finished, video should be up around 9. am tomorrow (Paris time)
  15. Legendary CSA campaign

Don't think I will. It's taking a lot of time and I'm only doing this to provide tips (videos aren't monetized and will never be) : the Union campaign is easier so there wouldn't be much of a point.
  16. I've thought about making such a thread for a long time. Hopefully this will all help us build the perfect gaming playlist for UGCW The rules are simple : Only post one song per post (to avoid confusion and spamming) and if possible leave out the most obvious ones ('Battle cry of freedom' for example) My choice goes to Abe's retreat, a very catchy fiddle tune
  17. Legendary CSA campaign

Here comes 1st Franklin. We'll skip Rio Hill as it's ridiculously unbalanced on Legendary : Chancelorsville will be next (whole 3 days)
  18. Legendary CSA campaign

Pt. 18 is up, 1st Franklin should follow soon.
  19. Legendary CSA campaign

For the first two perks it's always training and infantry focus. Then I have two corps commanders with the Defender perk and one with the perk that increases the command radius.
  20. Legendary CSA campaign

At times the difference isn't that big but in Legendary they add a 'surprise' algorithm that can occasionaly bump the AI numbers significantly. I also believe the enemy's weaponry and veterancy is higher (in late campaign I frenquently stumble upon 3 stars spam, especially in minor battles)
  21. I read somewhere that those games could let your units entrench wherever on the map. Would have been fun if UGCW had that feature implemented as well.
  22. Legendary CSA campaign

Sure Infantry : Endurance course, Assault Course, Elite Cavalry : Horseback Riding, Shooting Training, Mounted Infantry Artillery : Physical training, Shooting training, Long range course It's always the same for every unit.
  23. Legendary CSA campaign

Weaknesses ? What weaknesses ? Can't remember what Dunkirk is all about. Sounds like a nice batavian town.
  24. Legendary CSA campaign

An alternative look at Stones River
  25. Legendary CSA campaign

Stones River is now available. Probably the best example of how speed can beat numbers.
