  1. Anyone know how to use the Gunnery Encyclopedia Blueprint? Last time I had one I right clicked on use & it just disapeared! I've looked everydhere for it.
  2. I recently bought a book note (Hammocks 5th rate), at the Admiralty store, clicked "use" and it disappeared. I am hoping that this book will add Hammocks (extra crew), to the ships I craft in the future. Can anyone tell me if this is correct or if not, how do you use the Books function? Thanks
  3. I left PVP over a year ago and have for the most part enjoyed my time on the PVE server. The most appealing thing to me is that I can play by myself without needing to coordinate with other players to go out ganking or some other silliness, or at a moment's notice have to defend a port. The downside is, of course, is that it can be terribly boring, other than doing missions & trading there's not much going on. my concern is the way missions have been changed, at least on the test server and it seems in the new release. On the testbed, we had larger ships so naturally to earn gold it made sense that I'd do a couple of missions & make some quick cash, not so! At least not at the level I used to play at. Without the Bot fleets, you are really hanging your buttt out there! Now if you go in with other players it's really fun but by myself (Captains mission w/ Frigate), whoa!. Now I've done literally hundreds of captains missions in my Essex & Frigate and have lost relatively few ships but this new setup forces you to chose a lower level mission like Master Commandant. You could take your own fleet but if you play 4 or 5 missions a day like I do it would become a full-time job building fleet ships. So I spent one morning this week (almost 4 hours), sitting & sailing around looking for NPC ships to engage (not traders), just like we used to do in the old days (before missions), well during that time I only had 3 battles (only 2 were worthwhile). Most of my time was spent idly scanning the horizon looking for sails. It occurred to me that if this is how it's going to be on the PVE that it's probably not worth the grind. So I'm at a crossroads, I know you have said that you will be working on the Missions for PVE as well as some other issues and for the most part, I try not to offer my opinions but I've decided to let er rip. 1) Dynamic Mission Matchmaker, Balance BR for missions add green Bots to balance teams. If multiple players enter then fewer or no green Bots. The ai should still maintain a BR advantage as they have in the past. This will allow single players such as myself to still participate in the most challenging missions without having to recruit a posse. 2) Rebalance Master Commandant level mission for class 5 ships only, no 4's, no 6's. This could be a very good mission! 3) Eliminate the restriction on player BR rating for missions. That is let the players have whatever size ship they want for any mission (I've noticed that a lot of guys on PVE like having overwhelming odds and it is PVE right, so no harm done unless the ai have a union we should be able to get away with this). 4) Eliminate 10/1 exchange rate for PVP marks, 1/1 would make sense. 5) Add Coal! I know that first one would probably take a lot of work but the others wouldn't take that much... would they?
  4. the same guys who always want things changed are now bitching about delays!
  5. Wait! one little change before the wipe... The language of the United States is English, not german, There are not any Commandant's in the US navy they are Commanders. I know, I know it's a minor thing but should be easy to correct, right?
  6. Yes a single/multi player version of NA would be fantastic! The fundamental design / mechanics of NA are so cool it just seems they could be put to better use. Maybe once the MMO version is completed... yeah right
  7. If I understand what your saying correctly I would agree in so much as your sailing SOL's however Brigs & Frigates offer a much more limited number of options in terms of effective crew management. Again you have to do the math, the ratio of allotted crew vs number of guns vs gun crew size does not work out well for the class 5 & 6 ships.
  8. Thanks for the tip! I carry Gold: hammocks, Lt Carriages & Lt canvas, however I will not compromise my hull strength by building ships with crew space and since I enjoy the maneuverability of Frigates as opposed to the SOL's I use cannonades. Still I must compromise gun caliber for crew if I am to leave port with a full crew. The crew management features are helpful however it's a real pisser when you've lined up that perfect stern rake only to find that you have forgotten to unlock the "reserve" and your guns are empty!! Hate it when I do that!
  9. Yes it did! However in NA a Constitution with full armament requires 518 crew. In this game class 5 & 6 ships seem to be most adversely affected by the gun crew requirement. I once spent some time calculating all class 5 & 6 crew requirements... don't know what happened to my notes, it was awhile back, but the upshot was the allotted crews for these ships is woefully inadequate. With the introduction of splinter damage to the degree it has been employed this really matters. I know this won't be changed so it's really a mute point... I'm just say'in!
  10. I would just like to see realistic crew requirements! Maybe it's just me but the crew requirements as they now stand are screwed, try to picture what it would be like to be on the deck of one of these little ships (yes little just go visit a museum ship like the Constitution or the Trincomalee), with the number of crew the dev's think are needed to man the guns & sails, it would become an unmanageable mess... all assholes & elbows!. Our choice is to always sail under gunned or under crewed.
  11. Lately I have been playing light frigates (I had forgotten how much fun they can be), I have noticed however that there is not really a good mission for this type of ship. What I mean to say is that the 118 & 135 level missions are pretty much the same, mostly brigs with a few Cerberus's & Renommee's... not very challenging and the level 152 missions are a bit much for these little frigs. So what if the 135 level mission could be made up of strictly class 5 ships mostly light frigates with some heavier ones throw in as well (no brigs, no niagara's), but set up so that an experienced player with a Cerberus or Surprise could have a ripping good fight and a less experienced player sailing a heavier frigate could also have fun. Don't how much work it would be to do this but it seems like it might be a positive change.
  12. Nel, your using your noodle! I like the the overall concept you've outlined. It is for sure that something needs to be done on the PVE server a conquest game with the conquest element removed seems somehow incomplete. I have tried to play the PVE server but can't stay with it due to the pace while at the same time I'm getting so burned out with the constant PVP grind on the PVP server. Your idea, or something akin to it could really make the PVE server a fun place to spend time. I too hope the Dev's read your suggestion.
  13. Good... that you stop reading that is! Truth is I'm not defending my personal opinions rather I am pointing out the reality of where this game is at and the response from those who for some reason feel victimized by the pirate nations success's on PVP1. But then you have stopped reading so never mind.
  14. Another one that just does not get it! We all started out in this game more or less equal. The map, the ships are all in there proper historical context. Now the object of the game is to build your nation & defeat your rivals... is it not? All the nations are doing that, right now on PVP1 the pirates are just doing it better than the rest. As with most forums everybody wants to be the smartest guy in the room, this forum seems to blessed with gifted historians who all seem to know how pirates should act... IN A GAME! Shame on all of you (especially my fellow pirates), who are trying to use historical context as a subterfuge to eliminate a worthy opponent. Beyond the setting & equipment nothing that any of us do in this game is in proper historical context if it were the Haitians would be speaking Danish today wouldn't they? It would no longer be a game rather it would be a re-enactment, imagine what that would be like... "Wot shall we do today mate", "just a moment while I check the Admiralty records we'll know in a moment, oh yes says here we sit in port today... tomorrow as well Hm-mm". As for those who say we have advantages ... name one real advantage, not differences but advantages that actually benefit the pirates. as for me I would like to see those differences eliminated if for no other reason than to stop all the whining. As for forging alliances read about the battle of New Orleans, pirates were instrumental in the American victory over the British.
  15. As I read through these posts (I have not read all), I am struck by several things first of all the supposed motivation for radically changing pirate game play mechanics in based on historical accuracy. Apparently pirates have an unfair advantage in that they are able to do pirate on pirate PVP , build ships & so on... nice try! It sounds more to me that we have player nations less organized, less motivated than the pirate's on the EU server. These nations cannot compete on the playing field so they take it to the forums & cry foul. Truth is that only on the EU One server do the pirates hold any advantage, on the other servers they are in complete disarray. On the EU One server we have been blessed with a number of excellent leaders, we have organized & policed our waters to discourage pirate on pirate action (a game mechanic which is in itself more of a hindrance than anything else), we have conducted ourselves as a nation, forging diplomatic relations with other nations and in one one case preventing the almost complete destruction of a nation. No historically the pirates did not build a nation state in the Caribbean and the United States did not have ports in the area which at that time belonged to the French in fact most of the stuff that is taking place in this game is historically inaccurate. The point of this game, it seems to me is that we start at a point that is historically accurate and the players go from there. It is no more unreasonable to think that the pirates could build a national identity, economic & shipbuilding capabilities than to think that all nations states in this region were in a constant state of war... It's a game! So now you seek to destroy what we have accomplished by citing lofty platitudes about historical accuracy, you are trying to convince the developers to do what you can't. Why not just go to another server with less competition where you'll find small disorganized groups of pirates there that you can gank to your hearts content.
  16. I believe this is a fairly simple & easy one ... let us have access to all levels of missions that we have earned. I currently find myself dreading the prospect of reaching the next level since it will mean I can no longer access the lower level missions that I can currently access. Why? because sometimes I like to use my lower level ships to have good PVE battles just to past the time & use ships which I really enjoy playing but are not the go to ships for PVE fleet or PVP game play. I can't see any down side to this, in terms of abuse that is, and it will be necessary after the upcomming wipe unless of course we are expected to do top level missions with cutters! So... com'on ... what do you say? can ya please? I should also mention that after +1,500 hours I'm still hooked, this is a great game!
  17. You sir are a liar! I tagged that trader Brig, you sailed into the circle, we started the battle side by side. I went after the trader and while boarding him you were back shooting me with grape! Watch your back I will find you ... over and over again.
  18. I did not see this specific topic but I know it is something your currently trying to define and that is the teleport (without ship), option. I would like to propose that the cool down period only be enabled if after a teleport you sail from that port if on the other hand if you only visit that port to manage your affairs (claim/place contracts, ship goods, etc.), you would still have the teleport available without a cool down. For me the time spent in OW just trying to manage the day to day business of material procurement has become almost more than I can bear. I have been online for at least 4 hours today and have not fought 1 battle or crafted 1 item. Before sailing from my last port I found myself sitting for about 10 minutes trying to muster the nerve to click the sail button. This is such a great game and is getting better all the time. I hope you will consider my proposal I believe it would at once prevent abuse of the teleport and at the same time improve commerce.
  19. 2 hours after my post and a new patch everything is working as it should, Happy Happy
  20. This bug/problem may explain why I am unable to use manual skipper. I have tried unsucessfuly to enter the manual mode many times. However on one occasion (after the 11/15 patch), during a battle I found myself unexpectly in manual mode! the F key did not work so I started draging my finger aross the keyboard until I was returned to auto. About 10 seconds later I was in Manual again so I repeated the process. I tried taping all the keys individually to find the one that worked but no luck. This has only happened the one time. I could try cleaning the registry but would I be risking a bigger problem? Related? In October each time I logged in I had to reconfigure my custom key bindings back to thier previous settings. Some, not all the keys would reset to deault. That problem just went away after a week or so.
