I've been wrestling with your same issue trying various things to try to get it to work. The only thing I ever got to work was a gravatar picture that it automatically used when I first created an account here. I tried resizing my image in photofiltre, renaming it, made sure it was a jpeg and so on logging in and out of my account, refreshed it and still no go. I added the photo over at gravatar and it works via that way. If you get it working please let us know what you did. In the mean time gravatar is free and easy to use.
