Admiralty refits - bonuses information

So again it comes down to your tag, and your skill in your ship.    It isnt as breaking as you make it out to be.   I would be more worried about how I can over come the obstacle instead of bitching about it.

Please add a separate square just for refit, add gold frame around it. Do not mix them with regular upgrade slots please. It will confuse people even more.

Rig refit is not about cannons, Captain. Check the table in the first post

If you are in a lone LGV being chased by two pirates, one with pirate refit and the other with Spanish, it is indeed a worst case scenario. But is it game unbalance?

To achieve this situation some hurdles must be crossed.  First the LGV must be traveling solo and away from shore batteries. Second, Pirate A must have come by a rare refit. Third Pirate B must have also come by a complimentary rare refit to the one Pirate A has.  Possible but not all that likely untill much later in the game.  To build a refit now requires items from the market in that specific region and a PVE drop from NPCs also harvested in that region.  Though possible these are pretty tall hurdles.

Now let's consider the fight. The LGV chooses its best wind and if good tags with range. In the ensuing chase one of the pirate ships will be advantaged and the other disadvantaged.  So the LGV needs to figure out how to slow the one advantaged pirate while sailing away from the others. Not an easy task but not impossible for a good LGV captain.

Other factors. We did not discuss if the LGV captain has prepared ahead of time. Does the LGV also have a rare refit? Did the LGV captain purposely not completely fill his cargo space to keep speeds up? Did the LGV reduce guns for speed? Did the LGV have the cargo space perk? 

This early after reset I do not think this in unbalanced. This might change later in the year when certain ref its may no longer be rare?

I got it as well and my write up also suggests its main sail bonus jib penalty.

I would have to agree. There are only several factions and the most competitive always dominate the relatively small map.

If the Devs ever open up the entire world, thousands of more ports, and also most importantly allow players to have their own countries and take the ports for their own clans, alliances etc THEN the more casual have a chance.

The important thing then, is that there must be over extension penalties for empires. so that when one group gets so many ports, its that much harder for them to keep expanding. this balances things out so a few super hard core groups cant take everything.

And I bet you haven't lost a single ship in the new system either?   Cargo ships are pretty much screwed period if they are hit now in OW unless some one got a really bad tag.  Bring an escort.  Though I think your just making up problems that aren't there yet.  Why don't we wait and see how things roll out.  As spoken below by @Hodo you get hit by very big penalties on almost all mods on the other side of the bonus for just about every refit.

Sorry but cargo ships should not be trying to out run anything if they are loaded with cargo.. they should play smart and avoid hotly contested or high traffic areas.  

And bring some friends if you need to go into those hot spots.  We have been raided at mort by French players since day one of the patch.  I'm going to bet none of the other nations have had this issues. We get that they are catching us in La Tort to Mort run, so we made it a standing order in our clan that you don't make that run without others escorting you, but they gotten ballzy.  They been hitting traders around Ocean Brite and Islet too.   We really give them much props for doing this, but I  bet you no other nation is feeling this.  So with that @Yar Matey we see first hand what a group of Surprises can do and if some one paired up two with the two sides perk we would be catching at least one of those guys ever time causee they will have one ship in the bad wind every time they pick a direction of wind and we would be catching them.   Like Hobo said it gives some pretty heavy penalities.  Since I take it your still in a nation that isn't getting harassed a bit (US still?) than you haven't had hardly any PvP yet have you?  I lost 2 Trader Brigs, a Surpise and countless Basic Cutters so far since patch and it's haven't even been a week.

I liked what they did, in the past you could actually stack both Stubbing and Staysails and get bonus from one and a little from the other (conceal out the penalty). Now you pretty much have to pick on or the other.

So if you have the other ones that aren't on that list than you can stack more than one?  Just trying to make this clear.

I think what he means is this.

1. You cannot have more than one refit each on a ship, so you can't have two of the same refits on a ship

2. The list above he states that you can only have 1 of those, not both on the ship.

So if you had the french rig refit, you MUST destroy it before you would put the elite french rig refit. You cannot have both on one ship.

Your argument holds no weight when put into practice.  A new player logs in does some missions in a cutter, finds out he needs to do some trading to get money and resources, gets an LGV, tries to do some trade runs, loses his ship and cargo to a small fleet of surprises, rinse and repeats this a few times, then quits the game after not making any progress in the game.  Joke was on him the whole time, he never stood a chance, hes using a ship with no refits!  HA!  

Repeating this for great justice.  I have not returned to the game because I'm not sure I'll be able to be a casual player.  I enjoy the occasional PVP, but mostly, I just like to sail around, do some trading, crafting, and missions.  With the one durability patch, even those free ships to entice me to return don't turn me on.  I just don't have the time to invest in simply staying alive when I play.  I want to keep making progress.  There must be some sort of balance to where solo and casual players can enjoy playing and contributing to their faction and friends without endless fear of gank squads taking away what little progress or wealth/ships he's accumulated.

So wait,  a noob would have to sink 200 AI trade brigs just to get one refit and if they lose the ship the refit is on, it's gone? 

What I'm reading, from all these changes, is that the devs are pretty much forcing players to get into large expensive ships and run missions.  It was my understanding they wanted to remove missions.  Saying you want to remove missions and then making it damn near a requirement to make money or marks by nerfing OW loot is not the way to remove them.  Not all of us want to sail a Santa.  Some of us are happy in shallow waters.  Some of us are casual players who have RL obligations that prevent us from logging in for an entire week just to farm PVE or PVP marks.  Not all of us want to be forced to participate in PB's just to get marks.

I understand what you're trying to do, but there needs to be a sense of progression that's not going to take days and days of grinding. And that sense of progression shouldn't be stripped away in one loss requiring days and days of more grinding. By the time I could afford even ONE elite refit, you'll be ready to wipe for release and then... I'd have to grind that out all over again.

You keep this method and you'll definitely duplicate EVE Online. People with these super expensive ships that they sit and admire because they're afraid to undock and lose them.

Just go ahead and rename this game Cutter Wars. I heard one pirate today complaining that the only people who wanted to pvp him were in BCutters. You're forcing an economic situation where the BCutter costs nothing while other ship prices & refits, along with guns, are outrageous.
