Is it worth being a pirate after update

23 posts in this topic

Been considering it, got bored with national U.S and given my odd times I play, and other issues will likely stay as a solo player vs attempting clan/group play.

that depends…
Are your going to be a Disney pirate, sailing a large ship and wot not?

Or are you going to be a Historical Brand (™) Pyrate, and sail a sloop and hunt lone traders?

Well, yes and no I'd say, on the one hand the pirate lifestyle seems far better suited to post-patch with all the OW activity, outlaw battles, trader hunting and ship capturing happening again, but on the other hand the removal of alliances brings pirates close to 'nation with a black flag' status again, with RvR-centric clans, maybe councils and yada yada.

Sloops or brigs.

But Mr. Pete is correct.

I myself am no pirate, but I am a privateer, it is rare I am in anything larger than a 5th rate.

Do you want to share the proceedings with 1100 other crewmen or with 60 ?

Bit of RP'ish ( as we don't have shares in play ) but as Pagan puts it, that's the interesting part of going a pyrate.

If you dont mind pirate vs pirate and a very mixed playerbase with foreign languages then it is worth.

I will likely not be in anything larger than a 5th rate. I still enjoy Frigate gameplay but I think I will try to get a solid NavyBrig for shallow water piracy

Pirates will grow in numbers.

We will capture ports, once we get to big, I'll bet you Anything alliances will be turned back on!

Ports have no value anymore for pirates! Pirates capture ships and resources. Afteral the days of the teleport are over.

Free ports will be king again. Open world pvp is on the verge of returning. Don't worry kpr you know we are coming bk very soon.

Personally my black sorry flag has never locked so good.

TBH I wanted to be a pirate Hunter, but being a solo pirate Hunter is not an easy life lol. Especially when the server pop is low.

Pirates should not be a black flag nation featuring long-term conquest and capturing major ports. At best, Pirates should be given the ability to take the ports in the Bahamas at a maximum. Piracy should be focused on harassing every nation, not leading a Naval Campaign against the British...

I agree, if I go pirate I have little intrest in capping ports.

Driving the Nationals nuts on the other hand,

The truth is there is very little, if anything, that separates playing a pirate from playing as a national. You can sail around in a small ship going after traders as a pirate or a national....only difference is the color of your flag. Personally, I think it's a bit disappointing and a missed opportunity but maybe this will be addressed later in the game development cycle.

Well if you get caught you'll get hanged, so there's that.

Up to you whether being a pirate is worth the noose or not.

We can all agree that raiding should be pirate exclusive.

Pirates history is a little screw in real life as they were crushed by the British empire. So the pirate ability to conquest was cut short. For what ever reason this hasn't happened in game so pirates should expand lands until real life is mirrored in game!!

What I feel naval action should be treated like, is not a historic game where  game play is based on real life events in which the British have already crushed the pirate problem but instead at the tipping point of, crush pirates or leave them be!

Pirates captured ports- fact.

Let the in game communitys (nationals) pick if and how pirates are dealt with.

Let's try not to look back at history of the entire period and mold the game to fit. Let the game fit to the history we mold!

Yes pirates are fine and will be a bigger aspect once this teleport rubbish ends! Wars will become local and stop being global.  (want to fight you must sail there, no more teleports)

But he's been in a port and got into a "battle" in the local drinking establishment.

Pirates really need unique gameplay.  We need to continue to throw ideas around like these:

No conquest, no ports, but free teleports around to FTs.

Best place to hide is in plane sight if you ask me!

The best fun iv had in this game was as a pirate with sorry. We had no interest in rvr (well that's a lie, afteral we managed to captured part of Jamaica but that's another story).

Pvp was king, attacking the Dutch in there home waters. Taking sol's from the British at kpr. I loved this game then. Recently iv loved this game less and less with each rubbish patch!

Um hunting unarmed and defenseless people and then killing them robbing them or doing anything you wanted since they are defenseless is pretty much the definition of ruthless fyi.

Let people who want to play like pirates do so and you guys who want to play star trek harry twatter teleporty spell shippy guys play your way.

Well I will concede the point on that one. Although others would probably call it something else.
