Ships of the line in free towns

Recommended Posts

Certainly worth trying it out. I'd also be a fan on disabling entry of SoLs into ports (the whole region) that have 4th rate PBs. It's much too easy to screen the port with a few 2nd/3rd rates and would make a nice change to the style of battles - obviously if people put in the extra sailing time and risk of being in a SoL in that region they would have an advantage.

Good idea.

Would you explain us the purpose behind this idea?

Thanks :)

free towns historically were not combat oriented towns and actually were against any hostility in its vicinity. Keeping heavy warships in free towns allows nations to not capture ports to get closer to enemy and just bring them to FT and keep there. Removing possibility to dock in line ships creates better frontline and actually provides better indication of where enemy conquest fleets might be - in turn creating more pvp options.

Better still to make all FP have their own Green Zone like we do around capitals. No hostile actions in the green zone in the view distance.
This will sort 99% of all FP ganking issues right away

Green zone around FT would not make sense if SOLs can be stored there. If your region is next to it,those can still be used for any kind of action.

An organic solution would be to deny ships entrance to ports because of draft. Free Towns may just happen to be shallow? Same end result, no need for artificial limits and rating systems.

Can not enter with LGV either if done properly.

On the other hand, if done properly, you can even enter with SOL a shallow water port ;) Happened already :)

Then, when you want to trade with another nation, you can only bring goods in a trader snow, and nothing larger. But if we make a distinction in draft between below 4th rates and SoLs and designate freeports as maximum 4th rate/middle draft (for lack of a better word), then yes.

Warships should only be able to repair and resupply at Freetowns without the ability to log off or fully dock there, weather or not you put a time restriction on it so people cant just sit their warships there and wait for PB close by and all jump out and move on, Freetowns should be a trade hub and only allow traders to dock and use warehouses while they are able to log off.

Yes, ideally, this would be actual draft measurements rather than some arbitrary 'rate' assignment. This could also give some of the Baltic SoLs a nice utility boost.

SOLs are not the issue in FP ganking fest. Personally I dont really care if they are stored or not stored in FPs as neither affects ganking. But green zone will definitely help with that
