Historical Newspaper Resources

Powderhorn

Recommended Posts

I'm making this thread as a repository of guides and resources for those who make National News Newspapers and the like.  Any fonts, textures, historical references, or images that you would be willing to share would, I imagine, be appreciated by the larger community.  With them, hopefully we see greater access to creating such content and a greater diversity of pieces.

Thank you for your time.

Parchment Paper (feel free to search .png if you want transparent tattered edges):

Old Fonts:
Again I use a google search, but I try to sway from the extremely elaborate fonts with all the swirls, as it makes for hard reading. It's hard to find proper names for some fonts, because many sites you will use to edit your papers all seem to have user-given names for their fonts, rather than the proper font name.
Free image editor sites:

An example (w a handwritten font):

For inspiration etc. here's a Danish repository with thousands of different historical newspapers (mostly Danish):

In my newspaper pages, I use the 18th century font posted by WinterPatriot above. I posted some more information about my newspaper creation in particular here.

I believe this is where I got the font that I'm partial to from:

18th Century Font

I'm rather tempted into actually paying for the 1776 Independence Font.

This is absolutely great. Pretty sure I've seen very similar ones being used in TV series and docs.

Ahoy! Here are the parsley and photo outline for my topic. I uploaded them on png for the transparence.

Photo border  and  Parchment

(Open image, right click on it and "save image as" to keep transparency with png format)

For fonts I downloaded them from http://www.dafont.com

http://www.dafont.com/fr/daniel.font and http://www.dafont.com/fr/shipped-goods.font

Free to use, enjoy! :)
