It is quite different. In the missions you get help from friendly AI, in epic events or attacking enemy vessels in the OW you get none. Removing missions will force people to look for a group, and sometimes that it is not easy or fast enough.

True enough with the Epic events, it is meant to be a group instance although it can be done alone at some levels, such as taking a Belloan to face a Cerberus entry level.

After I calmed down a bit, and thought about it, there is much more in these plans I dont care for than I do.

I have already stated my dislike of the kickstarter plans.  I do think it is a good idea for additional ships, just not revamps of old ships.

The removal of Hostility system, no... just no.  It should be tweaked yes, but removed no.  Again developers jumping to extremes instead of finding a solution.

I do like the removal of the officer perks and attaching them to the character instead.  This gives me some reason to care about my career.  Now if they have the officer as an additional skill set tied to the individual ship, that would be perfect.

I agree, dumping hostility system is total nonsense. All it tells us is - we do not have time to code, let's dump it and move to what was finished. This is sad, very sad indeed. Not sure who did the planing, but they are playing with matches inside the powder room.

This kind of crap is why admin is more than a little inclined to stop communicating with us testers. There's ways of saying this without going out of your way to paint the devs as idiots. Ask for clarification, say you hope they reconsider, state your preferences, be frigging civil about it. Pretend you're talking your grandmother or something.

PS - This isn't directed just at you Ned. This is more of a blanket rant. There's a ton of people in these forums that routinely spout off at the devs like they're leaving snarky comments in Reddit. NA is a game, but the devs are not fellow gamers you can talk smack to and expect it to just roll off.

You questioning my opinions? As you can see there is not a single word saying Devs or pointing fingers. I am addressing my worries about what I believe might do more damage than good to this game. Punishing players will only bury this game deeper in the ground.

P.S. I will write your name down in my 'No Mercy' list and we shall settle this on high seas 1 on 1 when I find you.

This would be my suggestion to the DEV team:

We have tested flags and we have tested hostility....Both have their problems and both have their merits.  Can we not work with what works for both to come up with a combination of the two that plays to their good points and increases PVP?

This is what I propose:

Raids are triggered by purchasing flags like the old system.

Raids are used to generate the hostility to trigger a port battle, the amount of hostility generated depends on what is accomplished during the raid.  PVP kills/capture generate (or loose) some amount of hostility, destroying buildings do the same.

48 hours after hostility hits 100% a port battle is triggered.

As Devs use to say, they have done everything what they promised on kickstarter / EA release on Steam. Therefore everything what's more coming is just their free will.

(removed)... what are you trying to say?

So cashgrabbing seems to be their will now or what are you trying to say?

Cash Grabbing....REALLY?

Let's calm the freak down people.

The bottom line is Game labs is a BUSINESS.  To STAY in Business they need to make money....GASP! NOT MONEY! THE ROOT OF ALL EVILS....

If they do not make money they close up shop, they shut down servers and then what are we all going to do?  Dream about the thousands of hours we played Naval action?

Do this.  Take the amount you paid for naval action then divide that by the number of hours you have played.   Is the hours of entertainment worth what you paid?

For me, with over 4K hours playing I've paid less than a cent per hour of play time.  A dang good deal.

Game labs has not made another cent since I purchased my copy a few years ago, but I have continued to benefit from playing a game that I love.

So hellya I'm willing to pay more to help development of Naval action.

How much development time do you think your purchasing of Naval Action  paid for?  One hour? two?  What is game labs going to do when they can no longer pay for more development?  Either they find ways to make more money or they SHUT DOWN.

Maybe instead any trade ship can enter a foreign port?

I was thinking the same thing but a good reputation system for  traders would be nice. You have good rep with that nation and haven't sunked a ton of there ships you can use there ports to trade at.   POTBS had something like this.

I kind of like the idea of AI attacking on the open seas, no more AFK sailing. What I do not like is AI being able to enter a battle, if I read it right.

Yah maybe high points for the Admiralty shop to get rewards.  You can get a note and turn it in and get rewarded for the capture of the nations privateer with another nation they are at war with or something.  I don't mind the AI joining as long as it has some means to check BR so it's not major lopsided fights. Most folks ignore the AI's any way in fights so maybe this might change that.  Though I do think they need to tone down the SOL fleets even more.  The main fleets should be frigates and light ships.  Tone down the ships and maybe ad more traders but give them escorts maybe?  The only problem with that is traders auto run and you have to chase them while fighting the escorts, but if you hit them as a group than that gives your team rolls to do in the fight.  Can have one guy go after the trader while the other two fight off the escorts.

Just spent half hour composing a detailed reply to this only for the whole thing to vanish. So the condensed version.

I think pve and pvp can complement each other so i wouldn t like to see missions vanish entirely.

I think rework the hostility rather than reintroduce the flag system. perhaps keeping hostility missions open and higher the hostility the more accurate the location of the mission is shown on the map to all players.

Threre s definitely a market for cosmetic microtransactions, sails, banners, figureheads as well as paints.

Let s be passionate about what we want without resorting to being impolite to each other. If everyone is talking but noone is listening then there will never be a constructive conversation. Ultimately this game will never 100% fulfill all of our desires but that doesn t make it a bad game.

I paid $39.95 for NA, and I guarantee you that paid for minutes of development time. I don't know what the dev team size is, but I'd guess probably 3-4 people minimum. Just for perspective - back in the day 20 years ago, yeah 20...  I was paid on salary but it worked out to about $25 an hour. When I became a manager it went to over $30.

I would also venture a guess that GameLabs isn't operating out of anyone's garage. You want more perspective - Google how much it costs to lease decent office space. Add in other overhead like paying the people in charge, computer equipment, office support staff & supplies, utilities etc. Having a workplace isn't cheap.

So - just to drive the point home. A 4 person dev team working in an office is going to run north of $300 an hour to keep the seats filled and the lights on. Think how the devs feel - now that after been given FAR more than what was targetted, some ppl in here are squawking blue murder about a voluntary kickstarter event for *some* players to help fund the effort to craft even *more* than the 38+ ships we currently already have.

This dose of reality has been brought to you by a former software developer and manager with some clue as to what he's talking about.

So since there will be NPC-Privateers any indication on maybe adding such a faction for players or making it a timed mechanic for pirates given a contract that lasts for x days (real time).

As for the two factions for pirates I had always wished for the red flags so I am all for the two factions! ^^

Keep up the good work!

I agree, but the current mechanics could easily have been integrated to create a system that used hostility and actually generated PvP instead of making us grind PvE, and would work for small and large populations:  Make hostility missions pop open a small PvP event circle where hostility is accrued or goes down based on time in the circle. That's all it would have taken. Or even just mark on the damn map where an open hostility mission is active and leave it open. That would have gone some way towards eliminating this ridiculous PvE grind that everyone hated. Instead they just axe it.

+1

Add this to the Raids which are planned - you could have Raids on smaller ports generate hostility for the big regional PB. Now you have to be lucky to find the group grinding hostility in missions that close in 5 minutes. The PVP event that pops open could be like a blockade - the enemy sails in opens a hostility mission the PVP event opens on the map, defenders have to sail out to break the blockade or have points continue to accrue. You could even translate this into events over several days leading up to the regional PB or a successful breaking of the blockade.

Hostility mechanic should stay...just tweak it....and u can add buying a flag for PB instead of having them auto-generate - this gives some control of when it will occur.                   We all know that its the Time Zones causing the issues with PBs - not sure how u address that.

With respect to the Officer/Captain and his perks - i dont think its right u can reset him as many times as u want without a penalty.  Perhaps we should have more than one officer and they can be left in ports like our ships and used as needed.  Each could have their own unique skill set and if u wish to reset an officer it should cost a life.

Lets make NA great again.  And if the US want a connie redesign they can always find a way to make the Spanish Faction pay for it.

Let's say for a moment that part of this is dwindling financial returns for Game Labs. I think many players, as several have commented here, would support paying a few dollars for paint schemes, customizations, etc for their ships. This would add a tremendous variety and visual improvement to battles, the OW, etc as captains have the ability to make their ships unique. I am NOT suggesting pay to win - but pay to customize would likely bring in a little cash infusion as each player customizes each ship they own.

The NPC changes might open a venue for different kinds of PvE activities such as hunts and rewards instead of a "go to swords and grind".

On the PvP side of things the whole cake changes with Raids, more promptly accessible Conquest, maybe, and Perk cards being tied to the player ( and hopefully no more resets ) surely give a middle ground between what was, what has been recently and what is the middle ground.

If anything I am personally vouching for the Libertalia and Outlaws two factions option for the present pirate situation. Maybe it is just a "dream" and it won't work but tbh is warrant a tryout.

I would support a Kickstarter for adding more eye-candy in the OW. One idea would be to provide a seperate Kickstarter for each county, that way each nation and others could support adding fishing villages, remote structures, small towns, secret pirate docks, shipwrecks and other things to make the islands and coasts in their own territories more interesting.

???? american Kickstarter???................ , i wait to have more spanish ships.

It would be my guess that they are offering an American ship pack kickstarter first because Americans are the most common player nationality. If it doesn't work with the biggest player block, it likely isn't worth trying for any other nationalities. If it does fail, it will be up to players from other nations to convince the devs that they would do better.

It may be easier (and cheaper) to recruit some 3D modellers who play or are friends of players, to create the assets and 'donate' them to the cause.

I personally don't see it as a additional charge, since they already over delivered on their initial ship promise. This would open up the ability to get for example proper ship variation going with danish, swedish, dutch and spanish lines.

Because you don't see NA like an MMO, would you think it normal to pay for extra update in another MMO ? no, so why is this normal for NA to charge extra fee to deliver updates (especially that the game is not even finished) ?
Plus it is not a F2P or subscription one, but pay once to play forever game, so this is an extra charge that NA devs promised to never make (only cosmetics, ah really ?)
MMO need to be updated to keep being attractives after years and that there are no "over delivery" for this kind, otherwise the game will simply die due to lack of interest if there are nothing new.
And seriously, who want to spend more money for NA at the actual state ?

Most of the points enumerated here seem to be odd and not really appealing, it is like if they have droped all hope and lowered the bar, NA is going down update after update.

-Pirates VS Pirates (no exploits, let me laugh)
-Remove mission to replace with daillies, we have never been so far from the good all quest like in potbs (that will never happen, at least we are fixed now)
-Retire option (cf. no content for hight lvl is going to be implemented)
-And last but not least, they don't even finish the game and they already start to sell extra ships for extra money, they promised not to do that in the begining, also this game isn't a free2play or subscription, that doesn't make any senses to pay for more if i already payed for full the games...

Especially the fact that they not only talk about new ships, but also fixing the consti, soon they will tell us:
"we won't fix bugs in the games if you don't pay more, but not only, the kickstarter will aslo introduce new bugs that you will be able to pay for fixing later on, DUDES !"

They have wasted lots of times in 2016 to change again and again the already implemented things instead of adding real content, so players loose interest into the game and now that they see the amount of player decreasing as well as the review, they once again plan to modify some aspect of the game that doesn't need to modified in priority, and they will lost peoples again i put money on that.

Dont worry they did that on me many times :) thats why he is a mod, he cover up and defend anything by default.

Anyway we got promised pirate mechanics since pre alpha release. something like summer 2015.  We are in 2017 still not see it, again promises.

Lets face it, they gonna finish game  to be "playable" sell to ppl who dont know how the game is, With some steam pubblicity we get 2k players again then game drop to 600 players in 3-4months and game over.

From a business point of view if the game not make continuous income (cash shop wich all will be happy with skins etc) there is no reason for them to continue  develop it after the big sell release.

COULD SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS:

KICKSTARTER

1. Does this mean that if I pay for a special ship-pack, I get the ships, but players who have not paid for it do not?

MISSIONS

2. No more missions means that there is only PvE against AI ships or AI ship fleets?

THANK-YOU.

I am sure you would have get an answer without caps as well.

At the moment it seems when a ship pack is founded it will be available for everyone. Not only for the ones who have founded it. But founder may get a special thanks like paint for the new ships but don't take my last statement to serious it isn't confirmed.
