Chivalry of Sverige Hunters

I sail a British Trader Brig on PvP1 but am not skilled at combat.  I am an Ensign with a crew of 15. I like the PvP server, it is exciting.  I’ve been active since Feb of last year.  Tonight at 17:50 hr (rt Zulu-8) I was idling in front of Port Carlisle on the southern coast of Jamaica.  As I often do I was enjoying the view and making ready for a short hop south.  My ship was heavy with resources that I had intended to sell at Pedro Cay.  I had invested most of my small earning in hope of a reasonable profit. It is risky having so much of my wealth in one trade run. But exciting.

Suddenly I found myself in battle with 3 Sverige ships.  They opened fire immediately and shouted across "We are not nice."  I shouted back that I was unprepared and had everything I owned on board.  I ordered my two small escorts to flee and set full canvas to flee myself.   It seems futile to try and dock at the port.  The Sverige closed with me and used their ships to block my movement, then promptly demasted my brig.

My damaged ship

I fully expected the worse and was certain that I would soon be destroyed.  After all it is a game centered and focused on combat and violence.  Who could fault them.

The port defenses opened fire on the attackers. Regardless  I think they could have easily captured my ship.  They did not.

As they sailed away one yelled “Beware of those Danes”.

My compliments (and thanks) to Kommendor Cals Flemming Larsson, Konteramiral Yar Matey and Konteramiral Carl Baron who showed sportsmanlike deportment.  Naval Action is a truly great environment and this example of good conduct enhances the experience.

I done this a few times when I caught newbies in the shallows.  I get there sails mast down and some times crew and than leave.   Other times I have helped them get out of irons.  A few I have even offered ships to at a free port to help them.

I do feel bad the one time I found one of them Unicorn Spaniards on PvP2 and he was attacking an AI Pirate in our waters. I popped into the mission with my LVG fully loaded with goods.  I sunk his escort (AI ship) and than told him if he leaves I'll let him as long as he leaves the little pirates alone.  Well he fired a shot across my nose and I ment to his space bar and only fire one cannon of grape into his ship. I Tapped my  mouse instead and gave him a full broadside.  I killed all 40 of his crew on his basic cutters (before the last patch).  I felt so bad didn't mean to kill all his crew.  I rushed back to port and message him and to told him if he meets me at a friendly freeport I have a new ship for him.  He didn't message back.  Prob ran the poor guy off (or didn't know how to chat back).   I felt so bad that day....well until I sunk a few other Nats than I felt better.

So yah some times it's worth it to be nice and have a good sport about things.  Good post.

Sometimes i let people go and sometimes I don't. Here is how I judge...  If you insult me at all then I will attempt to sink or capture you. You can't go from mean to nice. You can't call me names and then beg me to let you go. Second, don't ever tell me you are carrying nothing. You would be better to just surrender at that point because I will definitely sink you because players are not to be trusted when it comes to that. What this fella did would get you much closer to a gracious release. I've been where this fella was at and I would be sympathetic. I would also consider it a very honest thing to say and I like to reward good behavior. I will have no mercy on anyone that I suspect or has a reputation for dumping cargo. I never dump my own cargo. This is a game about conquest. If I get caught the antagonists deserve to be rewarded. Thats the way all groups in the game have fun.

I was hit 3 to 1 outside of La Navasse, severely outgunned, and just refused to go down without a fight. The enemy very graciously offered to let me go once it was clear I'd lose the fight, an offer I answered with more grapeshot. There were salutes all around when I sank, and it turned what could have been a salty incident into something that built respect despite our national rivalry.

LoL, that was me and my crew that demasted you then left.  Our conversation on TS went something like this,

"HEY there's a player ship over there!  Lets tag him to give him a scare"

thinking you would pop back into port before the countdown timer went into battle.  We end up in battle,

"ohh he didn't pop back into port!",

"he is only an ensign, probably a new player."

"lets give him a scare by demasting him then leaving the battle".

"OK!"

SUPPLIMENTARY

I repaired my ship at Carlisle and continued on with the voyage.  Made a little money at Pedro Cay and Port Royal trading Oak log Iron Ore and Tobacco.

I left Port Royal 5 days later for Port Morant with a load of Teak.  As I left port the passing many  ships signaled that several Pirates and French raiders has been sighted south of Savanna la Mar heading east.

The journey seemed longer than ever before and I was very attentive scanning constantly to the south and west.

I was very relieved to see a fleet gathering at Port Morant.  It is reassuring to be in presence of so many ships from Britain.

Safety in numbers they say.
