Hello! I have been a POTBS player for a long time a few years ago!

My answer is the more ships, the better.. At the end of the day though, it all comes down to your sandbox world design!!

You either go for the POTBS model with faction teritorial conquest and divide ships to factions (english, spanish, pirates e.t.c (potbs divided only between pirates and the rest)) or you go to an "eve online" model with clan-alliance-coalition teritorial conquest, or to a mix of the 2, so that english can kill english, spanish fight against spanish e.t.c (to add some spice into the internal faction relations)

On any occasion you should aim at addin more and more ships. In my humble opinion, you should divide ships into categories (classes) and provide us with at least 1-2 ships per class when the sandbox is opened!!!

Game looks awsome, I hope you really manage to give depth to this beauty!!

Favourite ships: PVE: Valiant 3rd rate. PVP: Hercules/ Hercules Heavy

I sailed the Mignone Privateer. Always had fun in that ship. It is akin the Bonhomme Richard.

Also loved the Acheron frigate.

I also sailed the Macedon a lot. If I remember correctly, that was like a 64.

The biggest ship I had was the Wendon. I kinda hated it. Too slow.

The Cerberus the the most fun. Turned on a dime and was fast. That was a true skirmisher's ship.

I see myself as a frigate captain. I won't say dashing because I'm bald and fat.

Fun thread.

Hey Mates,

This thread tickled me as I used to haunt the PotBS forums a lot. I also made some of the ships via the user content.

The Mignone Privateer. was my baby...it was named after me, Frank Mignone. It was basted on an East Indiaman hull designed by Chapman, if I remember correctly.

I also made a west Indiamen, which I think got called the dromedary...named after a frickin camel lol. Appropriate, to be sure...but still....a camel. again, another Chapman design.

My last ship was the mystique Xebec Poleacre. I had fun making that.

I just tripped over this game and I am excited to get involved, if possible. Finally, A new AoS game!

Nah, I do not know Marion outside the AoS world. Always thought it was a she?

Anyways, she made some good ships, so I am not surprised to find her about.

Ironically, I didn't play PotBS much...I didn't like that it became so...arcade-like. I am hoping this will be more like the original AoS.

TBH, most of the images I have seen feature all the ships with a full press of sail...that makes me nervous.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice. I guess after playing empire total war the sight of full sails all the time looks weird.

I wouldn't get too nervous, the developers seem to have a very good grasp of mixing good game-play with realism, and there are some very knowledgeable people here on the forum that give great feedback to the developers. The game handles great from my perspective, there isn't anything quite like it that I'm aware of.

Most, if not all of them, would fit within this game's time period.  By far, the better models were the player made ones.  Still a couple of Akela's originals like the Ingermanland and the Myrmidon/Conquistador (which where inspired by a French frigate whose name I don't remember) were very nice if not fully refined.  Some I didn't care for, the Minerva for example with its frumpy stern, or the Cerberus with its oddly proportioned and shaped hull.

EDIT:

Pretty much any French frigate from the 18th century would be welcomed.  Surprise was a captured French frigate after all.

Loved the Raa (Disco)

Still supporting stralsund frigate, beautifulnship

also raa frigate or tigre frigate

Raa, that would be a splendid 6th rate here.

Looks like a few people have a liking for the Raa frigate, me included, it's a nice frigate, not too heavy, not too light, it has decent speed and turning ability. Its main point (in Potbs at least) was the high reload capacity due to its many low lb cannons, I think they were 10lbs.

Something like this would be fun to see in Naval Action. ONLY if it is realistic of course, as I am not sure on the actual ship itself, and the cannon poundages that it packed.

I'd very much like the POTBS Myrmidon (La Renommee)... have you guys seen that STERN?

You can't look at a French lady like that and tell me you're not interested...

;)

Ah the Myrmidon! That ship was awesome when I was starting to PvP in Potbs, good DPS, good turning and looks great!

Would sail her /10
