Ladys and Gentelmans, Captains, Privateers and Pirates, welcome to the first 3v3 PVP1 Tournament !

Tournament Live shows and playbacks program.

Challonge Tournament "overview".

Hear ye, hear ye!  The grand tournament, showcasing the prowess of various famous, infamous, and lesser-known Captains has started !

The stakes are high, with awards aplenty to the victors.  Rewards are as follows:  A total of 13.7 million pieces of eight to be divided between those squadrons which place first, second, and third in the honorable fray.  Four Bucentaure-class ships to be likewise divided.  Perhaps most sought of all, a L’Ocean-class ship for first place, an Aggememnon-class ship for second place, and a Heavy Rattlesnake-class sloop-of-war for third place teams.  The other awards shall be split 50/30/20, with two of the Bucentaure-class ships for first place, and one for second.  These rewards have been contributed to by Captains whose names appear in the coded signal books as “Fellvred,” “qw569,” “Tomms123,” “Tommy Shelby,” “Hethwill,” “Louis Garneray,” and even High Admiralty themselves!

As with any such competition of skill, observers must be present.  These individuals will keep a weather eye out for any behavior deemed to be beyond the rules of this competition.  They appear in the signal books as, “Kair,” “M G,” “Hethwill,” “OlavDeng2,” and “Hans Wilhelm.”

The rules these observers will be maintaining, and competitors will be responsible for, are as follows :

  1. Squadrons will consist of three players each, and each match will consist of one squadron fighting one other squadron.
  2. Vessels shall be no larger than a 4th Rate Ship, and the combined strength of a squadron shall be no greater than 500 points. The point value of each individual vessel can be found by clicking the link. You can build your team with Tommy Shelbys Google sheets.
  3. Should your signal lieutenants be able to project a constant stream of information about the match during the same, this is allowed, but not required.
  4. It is, however, required that Captains make note of the vessels both at the beginning of the match, and at the end of the match, a screen shot is required.
  5. Matches will be scheduled between squadrons and observers.  Squadrons will be notified of the availability of observers, and will schedule accordingly.
  6. Said observers are not to be molested.
  7. Communications are to be gentlemanly, or kept to such a style as seen in this Seafarer’s Guide.
  8. Abusive language and behavior will not be tolerated.  The first offense will receive a warning from the observer.  On the second offense, the offending Captain will have to disengage, or the squadron will be disqualified.  On the third offense, even should the offending Captain be disengaged, the entire squadron shall be disqualified.
  9. Every squadron should strive to have a motto they rally to.  The best motto, voted upon by the seafaring community at large, shall receive one million pieces of eight, donated by “OlavDeng2.”
  10. Each Captain participating in the contest should meet in the well-known “Team Speak” Tavern 30 minutes before the start of the fight.  Should a squadron member miss movement and prove absent, the squadron can delay the meeting by 30 minutes, however the match MUST start with the punctuality expected of a Ship’s Captain.  This option to postpone is offered once per squadron, and should notify the observer in such an instance in the Team Speak Tavern.  The address for said tavern will be sent to all partaking members by mail.
  11. If there is an emergency that occurs which would force a team to not be able to participate a postponement to another date is a possibility, this opportunity is however only given once per squadron and only for emergencies.
  12. Every squadron may have one captain in reserve. Reserve captains need to be assigned and registered before the tournament is set to start.
  13. Any vessel which is not currently able to be built by our illustrious shipwrights is not currently allowed.  Such vessels include, but are not limited to, the Santa Cecilia, the Heavy Rattlesnake, the Pirate Frigate, and the Yacht.
  14. Matches will start one week after the waters have calmed from anticipated sea changes.  Anticipate the feast day of Saint Gregory of Utrecht.  (Aug 25th)
  15. Registration will remain open until thirty-two squadrons have enrolled.  Currently, there are no slots for squadrons available.  Registration will formally close on the feast day of Hyacinth of Poland, regardless of the number of squadrons enrolled.
  16. The abuse and insulting of any of the judges shall be met with a disqualification of the entire team of whom the insulting member is part of.

Victory Conditions :

  • Matches last until the end of the battle instance.  Should a squadron avoid combat for the entirety of the match, said squadron will forfeit.
  • The first round of competition will consist of task forces of four squadrons competing amongst each other.  Advancement beyond this round will go to whichever 2 squadrons have the most points.  Three points will be given for a victory, one point will be given for a draw, no points awarded for a loss.
  • Subsequent rounds will be straight elimination matches.
  • If a squadron should not deign to arrive to the field of combat, that squadron will forfeit the match.  In the group round, this will mean 0 points.  In later rounds, this will mean elimination from the tournament.
  • In a round to eliminate the other squadron from the competition, the team with the highest point value of vessels sank, destroyed, or taken as prizes shall win.  If the point values of the above are the same, the match will continue, and the first squadron to lose another vessel shall also lose the match.

"My team is fully registered, what now ?"

We will creat a PM shared conversation between each "team contact" and settle for a date/time for your matchs (in no particular order). If you know teams your supposed to fight, you may take the initiative to arrange your match, however as soon as you have a date, you shoud warn us by PM (Hethwill, Kair or M G. Once Olav is back, you will also be able to PM him) so we can assign you a judge and a streamer ! EACH match should be validated by a judge. A streamer or someone recording is strongly recommanded so everyone can have a good time following the tournament (the organisation will manage that part).

How does "Challonge" work ?

You only need to bother with 2 Tabs on the left of the screen : [Group stage] and [Final stage] tabs.

  1. Group stage :  You'll see all groups there, with scores, leaders etc... If you click on "Matches" you will see the 6 matches of the group and can click on "Match details" on each one. This is where we'll post each match video and/or streaming. So for thoses of you that want to follow the tournament, you'll be able (hopefully) to follow each and every matche of your favorite team !
  2. Final stage : Once each and every group stage match has been played, the 2 first teams of each groups will qualify for the Final stage. You can also have match details there with the videos etc...

Its goign to be using the tournument changes which are being applied to small battles in the next patch. Hence its delay and changes of rules

I like it that the game will allow for such options without interfering with the other ends. I hope it all works out and best of luck to all.

Matches still 45 minutes, what it says in the rules is what it is.

For example, teams that drag close to the 45 minutes will probably have the judge informing both teams to vector directly to each other and brawl it out.

Judges will judge accordingly to each particular match.

Clarrifications and additions regarding tournament rules (will be added to OP) :

Ahoy Captains, please read which follows !

End of Group Stage :

It has been decided by Olav and the judges that the first part of the PVP1 3v3 tournament will last until Monday September 12th. That's 2 full weeks and 2 weekends to plan your matches and play them, be sure to do so beffore the deadline !

Tie Teams in Group Stage :

If two - or more - teams are tied (Same "score" on the challonge) at the end of Group stage, a few rules may apply to decide which team takes the lead (in this order):

  1. Win versus tied opponent = If 2 teams are tied, the one that won the match opposing them takes the lead.
  2. Points = If teams are still tied, the one with the most BR sunk during their previous matches will take the lead.
  3. Rematch = If teams are still tied, a rematch will be organised to finally settle this position.

(4. If several teams are tied together, we MAY use the "point difference" tab. This will be discussed between judges if needed)

The Tournament challonge has been updated to reflect these additions.

A rule says: the more time you give somebody to achieve a simple task, the less eager your request will be considered. In my opinion, this tournament takes way too much time to complete. Group stage should be realized in 1 week, final stage in 10 days.

2 teams out of 3 have played 1 match or NONE so far...

I understand this first tourny act like a test so don't take it as a personal critic for organizers/judges: be sure I am, and many other players are, really pleased by this event. Thanks for the time and energy you spend for us.

Teams, judges and streams, in the majority are family men and women and hard working labour force and students.

Add timezones, from -6 up to +12 and you can undertand the logistics. 1 week is not enough especially to the group stage.

TBH everyone is doing a hell of a job and communication is top level.

we could have special categories...

Like :

  • unluckiest Captain,
  • fastest to sink
  • the survivor
  • etc...

;)  :D

Even though he was sunk later on in the DAS vs Brits match, I think stabilizing when 95% full of water qualifies Augustus Charles for the title of "survivor".  (Always glad to hear other people's candidates)

Edit: Removed double quote

ALCON: We're trying to wrap up the first round of matches over the next week or two. I personally have a lot of availability to judge over Saturday/Sunday/Monday.

If you have yet to schedule your match for this round, please do so soon! My own availability is limited the weekend following.

A change to the rules:

Due to recent events it has become apparent that 45 minutes is not enough for the tournament match, as such the developers and us organizers have come to the conclussion that the matches will from this point onwards last untill there is 30 min left on the timer instance.

Edit: put wrong time, wasnt end of battle instance but when battle instance has 30 min left

Kiting everywhere.

Plus that in the RDNN vs DANVE match we would have killed off the last essex.

kiting IS a solid and fair tactics and actually this will give us more options and more good fights (i hope).

as for survival set - its overrated atm and wont be of use anythere - except this tour. it has a lot of flaws and counters, just not all teams tested it properly.

and essex is not bugged - every ship has its own pace of sinking.

imho timer rule long is better obviously

considering current frigs bail water combo,  but there must be an addendum,   if you cant leave battle at end of timer (cause you getting water so at end you gonna sink is only a matter of time . you must be considered as br lost, this will avoid any   tecnique of kill 1 guy then avoid fight with a semi-floating ship)       This will destroy the sense of running for timer for almost sinked ppl. and make the final results more near to the real fight
