Get rid of these fleets. yers who need fleets to sail around have not learn how to fight one one one. This was a bad idea before and his a bad idea again.

Sounds like some one can't fight AI ships and got sunk.  It's easy to take out some one with AI fleets if your in a team of equal number of players.  So it really doesn't matter if you get ganked by 3 players or 1 player with 2 ships in his fleet.  Your still out number.  Just think of this every ship you sink or crew you kill cost them money. I love to take down the AI fleet of a player while my team mates are keeping him in the fight and wearing his ship down.  I tend to board and kill his AI and than move in on him cause I'm the boarder of the group most of the time.   You know how costly that can get when you use all your crew on ships and loose them a lot?

Not everyone plays the same ships.

I challenge you to take a Pickle and try to interdict a trader with frigates escort, hell even with niagara sloops.

But then it is easy to make the mistake of judging every player by our own standards :)

I despise the skynet companions but have to play knowing they are present at all times. Pity that many prey goes unharmed though.

No you read this wrong I mean get rid of the AI fleets. Fleets are fine, but a player who needs a AI fleet to assist him in a fight, come on now. If you need a fleet to fight join other players then but if have to sail around with your AI fleet to fight others then what are you doing in this game then. The fleet idea was BAD in the first place and the devs got rid of it. But placing it back in again is wrong. Either fight with a player group if you need a fleet to win or don't. Because if I take you on one one then may the best man win but if you need an AI fleet then you must really stink at this game sheeeese.

Then I suggest you get into a trader with a 1/2 million gold load without protection. Then what will you do when attacked? Fight?? With what gun, you don't have any!

Fleet protection is needed in the smaller vessels. Sorry you don't like it but it does provide a screen for escape. I will gladly loose a fleet ship if it provides the necessary time for an escape so I can deliver the goods. Some transports are so costly that it is cheaper to loose a duro on a fleet ship in order to make the delivery.

Get over the fleet problem you are having, I am not here to be your battle-bitch, just because I am sailing in an unarmed ship.

I hunt AI ships pretty often... but I don't do it in a Pickle.  I like being able to capture my prey not tickle him with jelly beans and gum drops out of my guns.

When I hunt it is in my Ronemee (one day I will figure out how to spell that).   I have had very little problems waiting or tailing a prey till it gets far enough away from the NPC AI fleets I can attack it.   It is called "stalking" any good hunter knows it, and it requires patience.

Much like when I hunt player ships, I will stalk them at a distance until I feel they are either away from friends that can help, or comfortable with me out there and have gotten lax.   Then I strike, and I strike fast.   After the capture I don't dally around, I immediately leave the area and find a new place to hunt.

Just like pirates in the past did, they picked there targets.  If a target is to protected they waited for one that isn't to come along.  I'm sorry your stuck with wanting to play in a pickle, but if that is your ship more power to you, but you need to pick your targets and battles that you can handle.  If you can't get some friends to help you.  Hell last week we used about 5 Mercs to take on a Bucc and almost sunk him but we had one DC and another sunk before we had to pull out of the fight.  Guess what there was no AI involved in that fight.  Not every one runs around with AI fleets.  Hell I don't cause I don't like them slowing down my traders when I make fast runs.  Than again I have only not been able to escape one time when I was tagged in my trader cause I'm not an idiot and my situational awareness isn't that of a potato.

I heard you used this other times and sounds like me you just want easy targets and not a challenge.  It doesn't take much for some one to capture an unarmed or lightly gun trader in just about any ship.  Now take on a protected trader by AI or Player escort and than you show me you actually got some skills.

Ok let me put it this way....if that same trader had two Players escorting him would you still try to hit it in that Pickle?   Prob not, so why would AI be any different than players?  In fact the AI is kinda of retarded and you have a better chance beating them and getting that trader than you would if it was a trader with two player escorts.

Maybe just maybe you need to let that target pass and wait for some more easy targets out there?  Or just maybe use a bigger ship next time if you don't like them having escorts.

OH And I still own all my lower level ships and take them out.  It's fun to fleet with new players in your old ships and play them.  That way you let the new guys learn beside a like ship instead of bringing in something and power gaming them through fleets.  They learn better that way.   I also like to get them into a level or two higher fleet once and while and get them to take on a much bigger target to learn it can be done.  Seems you don't have that skill to judge what you can take on and fight even if out gunned.  Sounds like you just want the easy targets and not something that might fight back.  I bet you prob gank lowbie players too don't you?  Prob run every time it's an equal or out number fight too?    But hay that is life, not every fight is going to be a fair fight 1 vs 1 and all.  Hell the majority of the ones I been involved in was not fair fights.  But you want to know something?  I tend to still win them when I'm out number cause I don't give up and most the time I find folks that like to fight with the upper hand tend to suck and lack skills.

You know I can say the same about you.  If you need to attack unarmed/escorted traders than you prob suck at the game too.  If you can't beat the escorts on your own than get some friends.   Maybe wait for an easy picking that isn't being escorted.  Not every one is in a clan and not every clan member is on 24/7.  I have ran many solo runs without AI fleets to escort me and I have escorted many of players in my Nations I have played.  Some times you have that option and other times you don't.   To me folks like you just want the easy button and not the challenge of a fight. I will fight out number and have won more of those fights than I have lost.   If you want a one vs one than find a solo target to hit and not some one with a fleet or Player escort with them.  Cause I bet you that same person had two Player escorts you wouldn't fight them either?

I dont wat to get into a whole thing here because like many i just turn the game off and play something better but to a couple of your points i would like to give my op.

Comparing the real life shipa having escorts and that players should to i totally agree but what we have here in NA is more like the real life captain needing escorts but everyone in his navy being to selfish so he prays to his skygod and gets to 21st century drones to help him.

Its lame and its game breaking for a great many people and trust me ,as a vengeful ass, the trade ship seldom gets away with this goods. I simply sink him and then run from the ai.

The other point is that you seem to enjoy group fighting and sailing. Great for you but someof us are trying to play pirates as the population demands we play them and play alone and hunt targets of opportunity which is impossible when what should be opportunity is taken away by sky gods granting drones to players because other players are selfish asses.

The ai ships are a joke and deter nothing from jerks like me who will simply sink the trader and run for spites sake( yeah wrath of kahn style) so them doing good is over estimating them.

Maybe something should be done and many habe made suggestions but for sure ai drones isnt the answer. You yourself even said you and your friends like killing the player amd all his ai. So the ai is acually hurting the lone player through crew costs and ship replacement instead of helping him. PLUS is just gaurentees he will never learn to play correctly and that selfish players will never learn teamwork.

Just the OP of a pirate who operates a clan of solo pirates trying to play our part who dont like the ai forcing us to play in fleets like nations.

You bring up valid points, but the fact is it is a game.

You can learn to adapt to it, and work around it and be quite good or you can cry about it and not adapt and be bad.  I don't mean that as an insult just stating a fact.

This game does make some modern concessions that I don't care for.  Like I don't like having my coordinates on the map, I would love to have a sexton and have to be able to do that stuff myself.  But I understand not everyone wants to learn how to chart their position at sea.

As for the problem of everyone having a "drone" spy craft to see the enemy.  That is flat out false.  You cant se further than you would in real life on clear day at sea.  Which you can see a VERY long way if the ship is tall enough and your in your crows nest at the top of your mast.  You can see nearly 20km from the top of some of these masts crows nest.   That is about the current render range if I am not mistaken.

Agreed. Still do not like the change :) but I do accept both devs and the community reasoning towards it.

And I say if you need escort then you ask another player or join a clan for this escort. If you are in a combat ship and you need a fleet with you AI fleet needs to go. Again asked another player to join or join a clan for this fleet. I accept player fleets and getting gawk if I'm caught alone. Happen many times. I don't complain about it But a player with his AI fleet is not a go with me. Now I have loaded many a trader up with goods and I have lost a few to enemy. But when I trade I plan my trip out during off hours rather then peak. I will hand it to the US tho, to mention TDA. They have learned how some players move or have gotten lucky but they are aggressive bunch, I can't complain because they have caught me loaded at time's with goods. Fair is fair as I have caught players too. In both servers EU and USA. But i am not for AI fleets with a player. Again fleet with other players or go it alone.

No way. I never ever adjust my LIFE to a game.

The game needs to adjust to the life of players, not the other way round.

Otherwise, the game is fail

If I cannot sail a trader at peak times because I get caught 100%, something is wrong.

Right now, i wished i got caught more often.

But I do take my 2 AI ships with me on my INDIAMAN transports. It´s been good fun so far.

The good players get me, the not so good fail.

On the average, the AI fleet reduces the profit, as crew cost are high and you loose many

men leaving 2 Trincs behind.

Basically, it´s not profit maximizing what I am doing, still a rationale choice

as I enjoy my badly badly performing AI fleet so much.

Someone (computer) I can swear at, with no psychological cost induced on the other side...

Ships did sail the seas alone especially in the Caribbean. Sometimes they would group for mutual support. Sanctioned convoys usually laden with heavy treasure of metals or other luxury items usually had two appointed cruisers, plenty of reports regarding that.

Traders wouldn't benefit from a Post squadron of their own. Post squadrons would focus on attacking the raiders, usually at their havens, and not babysitting the traders. ( ie. Madagascar )

Post Captain rank required a display of gallantry and courage against the odds during times of war and not by farming missions. More players than I would dare to say would never get a Post.

I have came across many player traders which have the decency to use the NPCs that populate the world and find safety by sailing with them.

I learn to live with them skynet convoys but still I stand with Pete and many others #nofleets.

reasonable compromise:

a. no AI fleets to warships

b. limit them to traders and only to the ones who need them (Indiaman)

c. put a limit on selectable ships for AI fleets (only be accompanied by XY ships)?

This makes it more predictable for trader hunter and you should perform better.

But, imho. I don´t see the point putting a limit on it.

The "crew management" system balances it nicely. Do I take the risk on my own? No, okay.

Then my profit will be reduced y putting AI fllet on it, because I usually loose a lot of crew.

Wait, wait. New solution:

AI fleet?

Hiring cost.

Balancing by hiring cost.

The risk-averse player will take it more oftenly,

the risk-lover will go without.

You seemed to have missed my entire point. It dont really matter as its not worth arguing. I simply just play a game that is fun or watch tv when faced with it since once the devs make a decision they would rather sink with it than admit they was wrong. Edited by Mrdoomed

As long as we are talking about an artifical aspect to the game then let us get rid of TeamSpeak as a method of communication.

Wow sailing ships with two way radio capability.
