looking fora small trader vessel

Ahoy captains an shipwrights,

I am looking for a vessel of the size of either our current trader snow or trader cutter.

It should represent either of those in size and rigging. And it has to be a trade vessel. Build for cargo space.

I am looking for a ship to model. Which means I need good plans and if possible also good reference data. Ship models or drawings work good to have a look at details or deck stuff.

I know chapman has a lot of vessels but tbh. I am not sold on his smaller trade vessels.

proof me otherwise if you like to ;)

the cutter is 23.6m (77,4ft).

Ill be looking for plans. If there are good ones I consider the Halifax a viable choice.

(reminds me of potbs, privateer's starter ship)

Trader's cutter and Snow are fine for small coastal traders. They should stick around with much smaller holds.

What's wrong with the small Chapman merchantmen? They are just typical designs from various places in Europe, probably with the center of gravity put in the right place.

@Maturin:

There is nothing wrong with Chapman's designs. They are great and plans are in great definition and details.

Its just that we recently got a chapman trader and Venus might be in game as well and this ship of him and that..

I hope you understand what I mean ;)

More variety in terms of shipwrights

Is "la belle" a trade ship?

@Boiteux

Is "la belle" a trade ship?

Surcouf defined this kind of ship once as a port transport vessel, transporting goods from harbour warehouses to ships before their sailing off.

During Lasalle's exploration, La Belle was used for her shallow draught and her (small) cargo space, accompanied by a fluyt (for more cargo) and a warship (for escort).

Only 45 ton...

She's not a warship (6 small guns). She's a small transport vessel.

Btw, Le Gros Ventre is also a transport ship (built by the French Navy), not a trade ship.

A Sacoléva (or Sacolève)*

(62 ft, early XIX-th century)

That's a very common (even now) and old type of small coaster used in Greece and Turkey.
No gun,  but the plan is so interesting... See the high stern.

One can read 1835 on the plan, but it must be the date of the drawing (by frenchmen in voyage in Greece), not that of the building.

What about the Ostrich? Originally built as a trading vessel but she was purchased by the Royal Navy. A bit heavier than you are looking for though :P

Same with the Grasshopper

Or maybe something a bit more exotic :D

What about something a bit different like a Polacca? It seems to fit the description well :)

The plans show an armed merchant vessel, the model is very similar, if not the same hull design, but outfitted for combat support, both are Venetian.
