Rare Ship Collection (With Plans)

The plan for the 18-pounder frigate Illerim/Pommern in the OP (which some may know from PotBS) is from her great repair in 1744. This is how she looked when launched in 1716:

A stunner, huh?

Great find indeed. I can't recall anything like this in POtbs. Are you talking about this?

Its the same ship, the plan I posted is the one the Danes made of the frigate when the british gave it to them in 1716. The plan the model is based on is for her rebuild in 1744. The Pommern remained in danish service until 1767, if I remember correctly. Here´s the head and stern after the rebuild, same figurehead as the 'original':

And another rare ship plan, the danish Soe Ridderen of 1759. Haven´t seen this one anywhere else, although a forum member has a painting of this ship as avatar.

Cute little ship-sloop, armed with 18 4-pounders.

Exotic polar frigate. (I know ... it does not snow often in the Caribbean ...)

Project carried out from a war frigate model 12-pdr (or 18-pdr), attested the 13 gun ports on each side.

The frigate had to be pre-existing model as it is rigged, which seems useless enough for a project where only the hull is changed.

Date of 1798-1803 has been specified by the rigging of the bowsprit.

The front and back of the hull have been transformed, forming a sort of spur to protect the stem and rudder against the ice pressure. At the waterline, a metal strip similar to a wale, belt the entire hull.

This project seems never to have been done and remains unknown to date.

I'm so sorry, not the plan...

A selection of ship plans from Admiral Paris's Souvenirs de Marine.  Apologies for some of the scans being hard to read, it is in French, and in some cases difficult to decipher even from where I'm sitting :D

I did not include some plans which may or may not be present on the site already, or in some cases, I have already posted in respective threads this morning.  Enjoy!

That apple shaped hull is very interesting, what is the benefit of shaping the underside of the boat like that?

Reduces the draft of the ship by lifting the keel while still maintaining the structural strength. There was a shallow draft US Navy steam sloop made during the Civil War with a similar hull form, USS Pawnee.
