  1. Something that annoys me is that smaller ships not meant for combat - minelayers and minesweepers, mostly - must be designed as full combat capable ships. This is rather annoying when my $1,000,000 mine-laying 1890 light cruiser with a 0" main belt and just two 4" gets drawn into a fleet engagement, when it should by all logic not be drawn into the fighting. It would be amazing if we could a.) Designate certain ships as 'non-combat', making it less likely for them to be drawn into random encounters (this label could only be applied to destroyers and light cruisers with less than a certain amount of armor and weapons, to prevent this mechanic being abused) b.) Create special minesweeper/minelayer hulls, between the size of torpedo boats and destroyers (i.e. between 200t and 800t displacement) which would be far less likely to get into battles but would simply lay mines. Minesweepers/layers could be attached to task forces but would likely disengage in the prebattle screen. Thoughts?
  2. Hello Captains If you come across a beautiful painting of a vessel and you do want it to be replicated in game let us know here. Example 1 Brest harbor - painting for the French King Was successfully applied to multiple vessels. And looks gorgeous. Example 2 Brig by the french age of sail artist Roux Was used on several ships including snow If you are a master and can photoshop yourself . post your own works Format Clear and good resolution painting or drawing or part of a drawing (showing the ship itself). Proposed ships that it can fit on. Flood and off topic will be removed
  3. Ahoy captains and devcaptains! I've been playing this game for about 200 hours and I must say it is a lovely game. I enjoy the thing you can do with the free camera but I would like to propose a feature request that I think may be achievable in the near future. Currently in game - It is not a big issue but we all know that when we scroll in, we end up kinda on deck but somewhere in the middle of the ship, floating near the mainsail. Feature request - My request is that to zoom in but instead of stopping where it is, it can be default zoom into the helm of the ship. I tried using the free camera but it is stationary while the ships bobs around sometimes clipping into the floor. -An example is attached - I am hoping that scrolling-in in the future can give us this really cool view at the helm everytime. Misc - I am not too picky if the wheel doesnt turn in this view because that is so minor it can always be implemented in the distant future. - However, i think having this view adds aesthetically to the game experience. You are after all the captain of your ship, it'll be nice to have a good overall view =D That is all for my feature request. I hope it is a decent request as I have not found any threads on this during my prior search. Fair winds and following seas, Captain Personthing.
  4. The PvE server is a small server but filled with kind players nonetheless. It is a peaceful server as mentioned at the start screen. I hope that enemy player is removed from all players so we can see their name and invite them to battle group. So we can all work together. Calling players enemy players like the pvp just creates a divide I hope that all players from other nation will be able to interact just like the players in our nation.
  5. What 6th/5th rate ship do people want in the game that's currently not being worked on by the developers or another Player. I'm going to dust off my Maya and start a new project for fun ( looking to do a ship with plenty of references)
  6. *Note - all links provided are found online, so use it at your own risk. Hello Shipwrights. links might lead to some interesting information about French ships, but not guaranteed. So, open them at your own risk. http://www.rwmilitarybooks.com/shop_image/product/4f468474d3e1db80c6f24c7efd5855a5.jpg Feel free to go through these links and and learn history. Spend some time on plans and provide info about interesting ships that you like. Let's have some fun and happy reading. Dropbox link:
  7. Post any cannon pictures or blueprints.
  8. Ahoy captains an shipwrights, I am looking for a vessel of the size of either our current trader snow or trader cutter. It should represent either of those in size and rigging. And it has to be a trade vessel. Build for cargo space. I am looking for a ship to model. Which means I need good plans and if possible also good reference data. Ship models or drawings work good to have a look at details or deck stuff. I know chapman has a lot of vessels but tbh. I am not sold on his smaller trade vessels. proof me otherwise if you like to
  9. Hello Captains.. We want to bring a generic 2nd rate into the game. Please suggest a model. Include references, paintings and links to tech drawings if they exist. This is urgent - we want to start building it asap. Time period 1700-1800 Guns 80-98 Countries preferred: Sweden, France, Russia, Spain, Turkey, maybe Denmark, Britain is also ok but want to make some other nation We want it to be a generic ship - so would prefer vessels with less esquisite decorations If you have already suggested a similar model in other topic repost here.
  10. Captains.. Some one posted the link some time ago on the website that featured a beautiful french 74 (or other lineship) cross section with crew roles, beautiful pictures of every crew member and other interesting information.. Does anyone by any chance remember or know this link. Cant seem to be able to find it again. One of the examples from the site - i saved a lot from the website but cannot find the link itself.
  11. Hey, i "got" more portuguese ships, because technically i just got one, let me explain. I have plans of 3 different ships. One of them is from a 3rd rate ship but has no data and name(http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/81037.html?_ga=1.70445782.712756216.1451744237) . At royal museum greenwich i searched for the portuguese ship Príncipe Regente and i found this ship (http://prints.rmg.co.uk/art/492661/prince-regent-1814) but with the name Prince Regent with the data 1814. The last ship is a 3rd rate 74 guns, 2 decks called Medusa(just when it was rebuilt(went to 80 instead of 74) in 1793) launched in 24 august 1786 with the name Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo. Crew: 500-650 Length: 51,94 m Breadth: 13,65 m 1786 - 74 guns = 28 guns of 32 pounders ||30 guns of 18 pounders ||16 guns of 9 pounders 1793 - 1822 - 80 guns = 30 guns of 32 pounders |34 guns of 18 pounders ||16 guns of 9 pounders Say what you think!
  12. Post for videos on anything interesting and related to age of sail. Videos only please. If description is necessary keep it to 1 sentence or 2. Lets start
  13. The East Indiaman Amsterdam, one of the proud Transom Returns Ships, build in 1748, as ordered by the Chamber of Amsterdam, one of the six Chambers of the Dutch East India Company, has made it to the top of the poll Player-selected ships 2015. It is hard to get solid data on the original ship. So far I've been able to find the following: Type: East Indiaman, Length: 160 feet, Burthen: 575 last (1150 ton), Complement: 333 men, Armament: 42 Cannons (8 x 12pdr, 16 x 8pdr, 8 x 4pdr, 10 swivel guns). The Amsterdam was build under supervision of master carpenter Willem Theunisse Blok, according to the design made by shipwright Charles Bentam in 1742. She was the 20th ship build of this type. But... we are still missing her original plans! In absence of the plans, she will be modelled using the plans for the indiaman as drawn by Chapman (as mentioned by admin), which is an English Indiaman. Therefore, this call for help! Is there anyone (I'm looking at you Dutchies) who can provide us with a copy of the original (not the replica) building plans for the Amsterdam? They should be available in one of the Dutch archives, either the Rijksmuseum or the Scheepvaartmuseum would be my guess. (It would be a shame if the first Dutch ship to make it into the game would turn out to be a generic English indiaman, designed by a Swede.) Cheers, Brigand
  14. The guns on the lower gundecks of the Bellona stick out a bit too much in comparison to those on the upper gundecks, either that or vice versa. The issue can be solved by either moving the lower 32 pdrs back a bit and moving the 24 pdrs forward a bit, that way it would look right. Now this is an issue that has been present for some time and I haven't mentioned it until now because I honestly though it would be solved within the first couple of weeks, but since it hasn't been solved yet I thought it about time it be mentioned because it does look rather silly:
  15. This is very needed since they are needed and alos they are so pretty a pretty war galleon would look proper nice on the battlefield and the fluyt as an merchant vessel, i do not have any suggestions but i have made this so i can see a few or more of both that you guys are suggesting. Any vessel that is in the time period of the game.
  16. I really think that a handfull of warships wouldnt hurt im here to say that i really want a big collection of smaller and cheaper ships since we all start at rock bottom i really would see alot of smaller ships like brigs, sloops but what im craving is a small trading vessel and the thing i have in mind that we would have a variety of ships to chose from so we dont sail the same vessel after the "starter ship" The need for smaller vessel with or without guns and i have said it before the Brig Lady Washingthon or the sloop USS Provience would be ideal right now when it launches available for all nations of course.
  17. How would it be with galleys and other ships of the same type, in the game? And what would its characteristics be?
  18. The ships from the Anatomy of the Ship series Armed Transport HMS Bounty, converted from the mercantile Bethia. 24 gun Pandora - the ship that was sent after Bounty's mutineers. James Cook's Endeavour Survey Ship HMS Beagle - Darwin Voyages.
  19. Hi I am new to the NA community and am keen to model a ship. I have over 15 years 3d modeling experience. Some in Naval / Defence simulation. More modern than NA you understand I would prefer to model something that is in demand / requested by admin. Smaller class / size would be good to get started as remodeling I understand that tech specs are not released so far. Not withstanding my desire to start with something small I would also be interested in modeling something bigger like Cooks Endeavour (there will be more exploration in future releases?) or "First Fleet" ships ( I live in Australia) Also reading Patrick Obrians Aubrey Maturin series so keen on modeling anything from that. Also is there any forum or facility for sharing resources such as textures and techniques. I would be interested in seeing some other complete models to understand poly limits, texture sizes and setup. These are then imported to Unity correct ( I also have some experience in this). So any suggestions on boats appreciated or shoud i just look to the polls. Thanks
  20. HMS Surprise

Hello everyone Can you help us in finding the original paint scheme for the french corvette Unite, which became HMS Surprise after capture. This ship itself or ships that were very similar to it. Paintings or descriptions or references on where we can find it will help a lot.
  22. We are making a small beautiful ship for the game Its a 12 gun armed yacht that will be provided for distinguished gentlemen for military accomplishments or bribes. Can someone provide references on how these parts could have looked like in real life and explain (or draw) how they should be modeled correctly Also need information on how the sail plan might look like for this ship its a ship N3 on this reference http://www.sjohistoriska.se/ImageVaultFiles/id_3074/cf_1788/44.JPG
  23. Hello everyone.. Someone have noted that USS Constitution have not carried a spirit sail (under bowsprit) - and there are no visual references that it did. We have all frigates equipped with one. Is it correct and in what circumstances spirit sails were used on frigates between 1700 and 1830?
  24. Dear Captains 1. Please suggest a nice 24-28 gun ship. Provide plans and/or references, model pics. tech drawings. 2. Please suggest nice unarmed or poorly armed trading ship 6th rate size. Also provide plans and or references pics or drawings.
