  1. I would like to offer a few ideas for perks and upgrades and one quality of life change. 1. Allow trader ships to have dedicated perk resets. This would alleviate the unintentional error of not changing perks before leaving port to enter battle. If that is not possible, maybe offer a warning to 'check perk status' before leaving port, as we currently have for warnings of 'no cannons' 'no repairs' before leaving port. 2. Increase the number of default upgrade slots. Players are being denied too many upgrade slots in comparison to the numerous upgrade options that have been added to the game over the years. 3. Quality of life change. Allow combat experience gained in a Lynx, Brig, Snow and LGV Refit to be automatically applied to their trader counterpart. It seems redundant to have to grind, in essence, the same ship twice. Captiva
  2. Thankfully, there are quite a few really good games for pc centered around the American Civil War. 'Ultimate General: Civil War' by Game-Labs, 'Strategic Command: American Civil War' by Fury Software, 'Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865)' and older games such as, 'Civil War II' by AGEOD, and the older still - but still great - 'Scourge of War: Gettysburg' series by NorbSoftDev plus the 'Civil War Battles' series by Wargame Design Studios (John Tiller designed). These games range from grand strategy to tactical to hex and counter, with 'Grand Tactician' blending both grand strategy with real-time tactical. There are online reviews and YouTube video's for these games, so with a little research you should find one (or more) of these games that suit you. Captiva
  3. I highly recommend 'Command Ops 2' available on Steam. Base game is free. For first DLC purchase I would suggest, 'Ride of the Valkyries', which focuses on various scenarios from the Battle of the Bulge. This is fantastic game that, to this day, still boasts one of the best AI.
  4. The O'Brian books are absolutely worth reading. I've read about half of them up to this point in time. I read at least one book a year from the series. I also suggest reading them in sequential order - first to last. The reader will be introduced to a lot of age of sail terminology; because of this, I would recommend purchasing, 'A Sea of Words', as a companion book while reading the series. This series is as much or more about the personalities of the main characters as it is naval action. If you decide to try the series, sit back, relax and get ready to experience a beautifully written age of sail voyage to the many exotic anchorages and ports around the world.
  5. Yes, a captain should have the prerogative to take whatever he decides with him and leave behind the rest if he chooses. This is one of the most illogical rules in the game.
  6. admin. After reading all of the forum suggestions I think it might be helpful to hear Game-Labs thoughts on the question. If you have your own solution for shrinking the number of nations, it would be good to know so that we could comment on your ideas. One nation proposal that I am definitely on board with is making Pirates the only hardcore faction, with only 4 dedicated map locations to operate out of: One in the Gulf of Mexico, one in the Caribbean Sea, one in the Bahama chain and Kidds Island. That would give them permanent but limited port access to all of the map.
  7. This is not entirely correct. Having the weather gauge is when a ship has any position upwind of the other vessel.
  8. Magellan DLC. Sextant. Player that owns the DLC foregoes using one of his perks.
  9. Shortly after the games release I requested that the battle of Franklin, Tennessee - fought on November 30, 1864 - be included with the game. It was one of the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. It also led to the end of the Army of Tennessee a few days later at Nashville. Five Confederate generals were killed at Franklin: Cleburne, Strahl, Gist, Adams and Granbury. For those interested, there is a great mod available for 'Total war: Napoleon' called, 'North & South: American Civil War'. This mod includes the Battle of Franklin as well as the other major battles of the American Civil War. Also, regarding Franklin, John Tiller Software offers 'Campaign Franklin' which covers, Spring Hill, Columbia and the Franklin battles. It is an older hex based game with dated, but recently polished graphics. The game is very historically faithful to the battles. Let's hope that the Battle of Franklin is ultimately included with, UG:CW.
  10. Yep, you're exactly right. I need to brush up on my reading comprehension. If anyone would like more disinformation, feel free to contact me. : )
  11. I read the news today (oh boy) that a space station supply rocket was sending 8,200 pounds of supplies up to the International Space Station. That is more than twice the amount of supplies that the Naval Action Indiaman can carry....amazing.
