  3. Please consider the below comment from a player and not on behalf of the Spanish faction: NA PvP1 Alliance system has acknowledged the former coalitions conflict. Today Dutch nation is being severly pushed back into its homeland. Yesturday the Spanish were in same situation, so have been the Sweeds, the French etc... We all can agree on the fact that these type of heavy agressions are discouraging the player community that are suffering it, any newcomers would quit the game or change nation. It could be interesting to think about a small and simple general agreement between nations (apart from Pirates) valid untill the next patch (or further), where each nation would define a group of adjacent ports including capitals as « Secured Zone ». These ports could not be under attack by all means and by any nation (apart from Pirates). I guess the number of secured ports of each nation zone should be the same, tricky but fair. Is such a suggestion feasible I wonder, but what I am sure is we've got to preserve gameplay above all. Thank you for your comments or for any other ideas to solve this type of issue Frog

  4. I believe that giving players too much safety will not help struggling nations, but rather make all our player bases complacent. In terms of port ownership (ignoring that ports do not actually matter at all - and even less since in-game alliances) the Dutch are far from crushed and still hold their eco-zone and a decent number of ports. VP holds more ports now than Sweden used to own for months and months. In terms of PvP-strength, I do not see that the Dutch are defeatist. I do not see them complain a lot, and from flag pulls and allied reports there are still Dutch captains who are fighting. Being attacked on multiple fronts only allows them to chose when and against whom they want to fight. My one and only worry is that a lot of Dutch players might soon come to realise what useless allies GB are and wish to change sides. We really don't want more allies, we want more enemies.

  5. Everyone seem to forget the time compression. Because the battle is close to port don't mean a fleet would get there in time. What we sail in minutes is without compression hours. In my opinion everything of the game mechanic work as it should. The fault is generated by players who sail alone and the nation not organizing a trade route defense fleet.

  6. That's a noble pursuit, Frog, but I guess it is simpler to just wait for new port mechanics and port reset. Those with common sense will stop attacking empty ports, those who have pleasure of doing that, may continue (who cares?). As for Dutch, do not worry, spirits are high, we'll be back. The alliance system has some interesting points, but with current port mechanics, it made steamrolling somewhat easier. Anyway, waiting for port reset, new port mechanics and whatever those will bring.

  7. Agreed. Rule #1: Never take a 1st rate out to sea alone. Although thank you for demonstrating again how "social perk" was really just an attemp to mask bad player choices.

  9. Danmark-Norge is only down around Willemstad because we heard brits were down here and we want a fight. Our one and only port conquest goal was Pampatar. All subsequent flags are essentially PvP-flags.

  10. Yeah there needs to be a way to 'win' RvR without harming the general playerbase. This time it probably has a lot to do with the upcoming port reset as well though.

  11. A long time ago, Sweden was a small, but powerful force that even the mighty British Empire had trouble dealing with Sweden and her respective allies. Such a small nation to be such a large focal point in the past conflicts around the Caribbean is no small feat. But, with a quick rise to power, and a somewhat arrogant leader, comes a quick route to defeat and devastation. For months Sweden suffered heavy losses and eventually crumbled under the renewed might of a powerful Danish foe who was heavily supplied by British supporters. Even with Sweden blockaded into their Caribbean capital port, the Dane's were not done with their vengeful quest to eradicate those who supported their nemesis. France suffered heavily with almost similar losses in territory to that of Sweden and only until recently was not able to fully recover. As the fog cleared in the late spring, Denmark controlled a vast empire with claims of France and Sweden being nothing more than vassals, unable to declare independence. Many slept in the summer heat, under a tree enjoying what little freedom they had, but a Swede never forgets. Sweden remembers the glory they once had, and the ability to take it back. It is now that time, too long have we slumbered under the beast, too long have we allowed this new overlord to dictate what we are allowed to keep and who is a friend, too long have we forgotten our past friendships for the small peace we were given. It is here on this day that we proclaim with a thunderous roar to recover what is rightfully ours. Sweden will once again conquer the islands it controlled around Gustavia and be FREE! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After a long slumber of what we would call a "Swedish Winter," BORK is back. BORK will, once again, let everyone have a taste of our best export, the Swedish Chef. We happily prepare for the future conflict against our enemies and give our hands to new and old friends. On a side note, I and the BORKers who have come back fully appreciate the welcome back to PvP2. It's been way too long. Also being known as "Original Swedes" is taking some getting used to, but feels awesome. Man, I'm already full of myself again, what will happen for the future? -Teutonic

  12. ok so ever since the social perk was disabled there have been nothing but ganking fleets right outside the capital ports im sick of it and refuse to play this bloody game until this issue is sorted i don't care if you decrease the time allowed in social but 2 bloody minutes is too short. I just lost my buc to a french ganking fleet right outside king port royal and no one could get there in time to help. Because the timer is too short EDIT:can we actually have a fight? im not mad they took out my buc thats fair they outnumbered me so it was only right that they would win but here's the thing, they didn't even fight they just turned and ran every time i turned towards one of them (but they're french its what i should of expected really) now i like a good fight but i for one don't even bother with puffs like that so i just exited the battle and didn't give them the satisfaction of taking my buc down properly because if they don't fight i won't stay. If i lose my buc i'll just get another besides who cares about losing a ship anyway? after the wipe before full game release we'll lose all our ships, gold and items.

  13. Well, Brits proved to be worthy allies. Most noticeably in my view, they put quite some effort in keeping our western boarder safe from attacks from Haiti for months. However, their player base is not large enough to support war effort on all fronts. Note, that with the French remaining hostile in the East (this is the 3rd Dutch-French war since release), the Dutch had little choice but to stay neutral and then later patch a defensive alliance with the Brits, from geographic considerations, but also because the Brits were at constant war with 2-3 nations and there was never a proper chance to turn on them (who does not want to fight Brits in this game? lol) w/o dis-balancing the situation. Furthermore, the Dutch alliance with Brits was for most part defensive in nature. Only more recently, the Dutch took a more offensive stance, against the Spanish in particular, which was probably a step too far. I also feel the Dutch did not score with the three admiral treaty, when we tried to play sort of police role, which does not suit the nation imho. My point is that the Dutch nation put quite some effort into keeping it civil as far as RvR is concerned. So, all that BS about "the Dutch tasting the pill they invented" is just BS. We never reduced the French to a single port and always offered them generous peace conditions. As for recent wars with the Spanish, if even group of the Dutch did participate in rolling last few Spanish ports recently, that does not represent the nation (any nation contain a group of players w/o who do not know when to stop).

  14. Intent, consent and context are the 3 major factors when judging a case. Regarding tristing the tribunal: all nations havr moderators, when we internally discuss the tribunal all nations effectively share their view. Moderators who are indirectly involved or directly involved cannot participate in passing judgement due to potential bias. They can however try to explain the situation better if needed. Amongst these are some of the longest playing people in the game, so i feel comfortable to say we are likely to recognize the difference between an accidental friendly fire and intended friendly fire.

  17. Ended up a grid and a half too far North of this one. Got nothing for my trouble. By the time I sailed South, everything was cleaned out in about 10 minutes. This is probably the last event I try until some changes are made to the event. I've been at it three weeks now and have literally gotten one chest. I have a social life and do things late with friends on Friday. Then I have to work until very late Saturday night. It is too exhausting to go on week after week putting myself through hell to almost certainly get nothing. Can we please start spawning in the wrecks one at a time over the course of several hours so that: A ) People will actually PvP to control the area so that they can loot wrecks that spawn later on in the event. B ) People who were not literally right on top of the wrecks when they spawned have a CHANCE at getting something. C ) People who do choose to PvP in the event area still have a shot at loot when their battle is over. D ) There is a steady stream of chest-carrying merchants leaving the event area to potentially be attacked. The event is by intention a PvP event, but the way it is designed actively punishes people who try to PvP. This is not a good design choice and it needs to be rectified. I don't intend to participate any further until changes are made that make the event actually interesting.

  18. But it would take hours to get the crew up and ready and to make the ship sea worthy. Social perk is just another tool to allow gankers to set up ganks. The best solution is the one everyone refuses to do. Instead of 90% of player sitting in port doing nothing , how about they sit in open water near these supposed ganking zones? Then getting to the battle will be easy with hundreds of players sitting outside. Oh wait that wont work cuz then they cant set up gank squads while the two ships are in combat.

  19. We had magical Star Trek reinforcements near land. Ships of an equal class teleported into a fight, in order to punish people for the audacity of attacking someone. It sucked. Regarding various perks that may allow ships to poof into the fight: The only way to account for the time/distance compression of the Open World is for people to spawn into battle exactly where they were when the battle started on the open world. Otherwise, it is some flavor of speedboats teleporting in.

  21. Funny. If you want to see more fights i strongly suggest to pull less then 5+ flags at once. After all you are looking for good pvp right? Funny to see how alliances are broken atm. Imo there should be only 1 ally allowed and some kind of neutral state not white&black like we have now. And nice push you did guys in to dutch teritory. Dont worry we'll survive and back stronger.

  23. I also agree with frog. At this stage every nation has been thrashed at some stage, possibly apart from GB and even they've had their bad times. We've got nothing to prove by wiping out factions, or humiliating player bases. An agreement of this nature would help player bases and also might help reduce some of the bad feeling between factions and the accompanying toxicity. It would certainly be a tricky thing to realize but I think worth a shot.

  27. That this even has to be debated is absurd. There are ultimately two kinds of players when confronted with a rule or mechanic that they do not like: 1. Make note of it, follow it, and attempt to change it. 2. Break it, and claim it was invalid. You decided upon the second option. I would strongly caution anyone against following that path.

  29. So in the last patch the cost for building a 1st rate just went up by 1000 indian tea or iberian meats. This is yet another attempt by devs to increase the cost of 1st rates to get people to use "other ships" when the most power matters. This tweaking of cost for 1st rates will never solve the problem they intend to fix because 1. Players who want to win are going to game hard to bring the best ship they can 2. Power creep as the game progresses, more and more players become filthy rich, clans work together and you will still only see 1st rates. The only way to fix this issue of wanting a better mix of ships in port battles is to make port battles a lobby organized event. Lobby Organized event is similar to how it was in POTBS. Where players queue up to join the battle event. Doing it this way also solves two problems. Mixes the size of ships and balances battles better. Since the change in regional conflict mechanic is already going to encourage players to sail around areas and PVP. Why not have the main event (port battle) be a Queue event, this way more people can participate as well. By having port battles become Queue events, the devs can put limits to what ships and how many can join for each tier battle. So for a regional capital there could be a limit of 5 1st rates, 10 2nd rates and the rest 3rd rate or below. This solves the problem of having too many 1st rates. By having the Queue system you can jump in a ship at whatever port you are at, queue up to join the battle and pick a secondary or tertiary ship you can use if the max number of 1st rates is already reached. It could be first come first serve basis. You can do the same thing in deep water battles too. Where lets say the max number of 4th rates per side is 10. Then the rest of the ships must be 5th rate and lower. I know this is a huge change recommended and hard core pvp'rs who like the realistic having to sail to a port to defend or attack wont like this. I understand. But at the end of the day its a game and i think the devs are struggling to find ways to limit players bringing so many 1st rates to battles. So instead of the constant upping the cost, maybe its time to find alternative solutions to the game play . this is just for port battles mind you. have fun out there.

  30. (A topic with that title under my name, surely must receive lots of clicks. If so, then I finally learned to get a topic title right. ) A real life story: I'm currently negotiating terms of a lease contract between two parties. Neither party wants to file for a lease permit at the municipality. Both parties want an admission to this from the other party in the contract. (As to assert liability and damages.) I'm trying to convince both parties that any admission of guilt makes them both equally liable. (So it is better not to put in the contract any mention of the lease-permit. But I'm not allowed to advocate that, now am I? )

  31. The beginners protection is the free basic cutter with free repair kits and free 40 crew. I stayed with it until i could buy a snow. No problem with that. I made my first gold with midshipman missions and capping traders (mainly lynx and cutter). There is no need for expanded safe zones, just learn how this game works in your basic cutter. If you want too much in a too short time you will be disappointed for sure. The cutter is definitely a good ship.

  32. The dutch are currently tasting their own medicine, and they don't like it which is understandable - maybe too bitter. However weeks ago, when they almost crushed Spain together with Brits, they had no problem, as a matter of fact, it was the nature of the conquest game. Now when they see their territory shrink, they talk about "safe zones" etc. e.g. their recipe of their own medicine is way too bitter now they have to gulp it down.

  37. Breaking rules until they get fixed to your own satisfaction leads only to anarchy, as many people have many sets of rules they think are fair or unfair. On the Green v Green, I will address that here: That is why the 1st step is a warning. It need never go beyond that. You may think everything (and you emphasized everything) should be debatable. You are incorrect.

  38. The thing is, I'm not allowed to ask certain questions nor make certain statements. So I'm probably going close to edge to try and explain it. For that I apologize and if deletion/moderation is done to this post, then so be it. As an example, a topic I think we all can (and must) agree on: legal aspects are not a subject for this forum. So we parked this. I would say that probably most people do not need that lighthouse to see what is appropriate both on the forum and in-game. But it only takes a minority of people to ruin the game. Especially if all gaps are not sealed properly. In a year time I still want to be playing this game and not read back on how it went down on a "Woahhh - we dont care." https://www.reddit.com/r/NavalAction/comments/51et4l/moderators_please_read/ I bloody care very much for this game, because it has so much potential. Or lose the potential and get another Grind MMO. http://gameranx.com/features/id/17498/article/building-the-ultimate-mmo-society/ For that I need to challenge the developers and that can only be done on their grounds under their rules. I may not say this, but I will anyway. I have the highest admiration and respect for Henry, because he is sticking his neck out for all of us. Back to the edge (and maybe I need to move this to the green-to-green topic? Or it might get deleted outright?): The new Green-to-Green rule is 2 days old and we already see folks who are, either intentionally or unintentionally, trying to get through those gaps. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/16379-team-killer-spain/ I may not provide any form of input here or maybe I do not understand the form in which it can be debated. Which is contrary to my beliefs of the method of elenchus. (And I belief Code of Conduct Rule #1, having an open exchange of ideas.) And then the circle goes round, not once, not twice, even not trice, but on and on. Forever we'll see such Tribunals, because if folks can't win in-game, they take it out-game. Thus we keep cementing the game or the rules, but without the whole picture in sight. New cement to be applied next round etc. And instead of a Fortress or Lighthouse, it has turned into an invisible rock. Anyway, I hope I have not offended anybody nor stepped over the lines. If so, then you can only view this post until it is moderated away.

  44. I disagree, not only should first rates be way more expensive material wise, they should also be very expensive to crew and to repair if damaged. 3rd rates should be significantly cheaper to build, crew, and repair. 1st rates should cost more to repair and re-stock with crew than you will ever receive in a battle, 2nd rates should barley break even, and 3rd rates should be much cheaper to crew and repair such that you will almost gain money by sailing 3rd rates. I also think that first rates should have a admiral slot for an officer that gives buffs to nearby ships that are not first rates, and 2nd rates get 1/2 the buff that a 3rd rate would get. This way we see more battles with 1 or 2 first rates and lots of 3rd rates.

  47. Moderating is not a popularity contest. It is not something that you give to someone who can have their clan vote for them. The job requires good behavior, the ability to coordinate and communicate with others, the ability to keep secrets, etc. Most of all, it requires that the person can, effectively, behave in a manner that positively reflects upon Game Labs as a company. "Voting" doesn't provide a review process for this. There are currently two active Spanish Language moderators. One of whom has been doing most of the moderating in your forums lately (it hasn't been me for the most part, despite your accusations). Perhaps if those utilizing the Spanish forums were more respectful of their fellow Spanish speakers, we wouldn't be seeing reported posts for rules violations coming out of your forums. Sorry, I didn't mean to say that. What I meant is that not because something is not polite means it has to be ignored, even in the worst post there is some truth. I develop business related software for a living. I've been doing it for nearly 20 years. We're all human. The difference between a customer getting in my face and yelling "that was a horrible feature, what were you thinking you stupid f***" (and yes, I've gladly hidden posts that were WORSE than that) and someone saying "hey, when you changed that feature, it really messed up a way I used your software" is immense. The first guy likely won't get anything out of me. I'm going to sit in my office and rage for a minute or three, and then ignore everything he just said because the way he said it angered me to the point that I couldn't give a rat's ass what his problem is. Given it happening enough times, I'm going to go work elsewhere - there's tons of great software jobs out there, and not enough qualified people to fill them. The devs aren't required to work on the game. They can walk off and find gainful, profitable employment anywhere, any time, without losing a minute of sleep (hell, they might get MORE sleep not having to work so much overtime). The developers are human. They work hard, long hours on the game. There is NOTHING on this planet worse, as a manager, than when someone starts saying rude things to my team, who are already emotionally messed up from spending nights and weekends pounding out the code to make the product work. I personally have refused to pick up the phone over the weekend at a job or two when people outside our department effectively broke my morale by being rude jerks to me. I was never even sanctioned for it, because I had managers that understood my value to the company, understood that I'd been putting in 20-30 hours a week or more of overtime over months to get the feature put out in time, and understood that their choice was to either let me quit (I had a box packed up on my desk, ready to go, before leaving the office that weekend) or to tell the jerk to take a hike. If you don't like something in the game, you can come here and state it without being rude, without insulting the people that are working very hard on the game. I will happily hide such posts, every time, because I care about the game and I care about the development staff. Further, Admin cares very much about his people, and he's going to yell at me if he feels we're letting people abuse the developers that are working so hard for him. The folks that work on this game do it because they LOVE the idea of this game. Users who are abusive to them damage that love. Damage the love enough, and it becomes hatred, and the game is static, left to die on the vine. We can ALL treat each other with respect and dignity here. Paying someone some money doesn't give you license to abuse them or treat them poorly. The maid cleaning your hotel room deserves just as much (if not MORE) respect than your boss, co workers, mother, or even the people you run into on the street. Edit - When I say "You", I'm not saying "you Caesar" or anyone in particular. I'm simply addressing the reader of the post, whomever it may be.
