  1. Archives of War pilot post: Battle of Castries. The battle of Castries happend on 30-12-2015 and was one of the last great battles of this year. Pre-Battle French players chose the right time to start the battle because the dutch players had to sail against the wind to get to Castries, The Dutch planned on teamspeak to not enter until the Polish (PFK) players arrived so they could enter in force. When the dutch were waiting infront of the port a French player attacked them and by this tactical move the french gained more time untill the Dutch forces could enter the battle. Battle setup: sorry for the mid game image. Battle Start At the start of the battle of Castries both parties got in line position, the diffrence between the Dutch and the French lines were that the Dutch frigates were gaurding the flanks and rear, while the french frigates joined the line like displayed in this image below. You can see that one frigate is gaurding the rear and the others frigates are guarding the flanks. Note: Dutch ships are white French are red in the Images Mid Battle In the mid battle stages the French formed a group to try and breach the Dutch line like displayed in this picture. This was a good move by the French forces. After succesfully breaching the line and isolating 2 Dutch frigates and a constitution, the French got disorganised and fell out of formation. Late Battle In the late battle the Dutch isolated the last French 1st rate from their remaining frigates and the outcome was becoming clear due to the Dutch having more firepower. Here you see the isolated 1st rate and the remaining frigates. Battle results The result was a victory by the Dutch for defending Castries and only losing 3 frigates while the French lost a few 1st rates, ship of the lines and frigates. The French put up a hard fight but the Dutch had the number advantage and thats what gave them this victory. Note: can't recal the presize number of French ships lost will change it when I have battle logs. The Clans that were participating in this battle were: On the French side: EDR MRF On the Dutch side PFK DAS The Frecnh put up a good fight and everyone enjoyed this PVP match of two navies clashing at Castries. Note: This is a pilot post, please give feedback by replying to this post their is always room for improvement. This format is not the final versions and I still have a lot of work to do, this was a pilot for a battle to go in the Important Battles section of the AoW. I hope this post does not have a orange hue, I am an independent historian and this is a project that is totally seperated from my career in the Dutch navy, If you have any feedback on this please reply to this post.

  3. We're a clan which has existed since early Alpha. At the moment we're just a few swedish players, whom have been exploring all the fun in this game. But with the Early Access coming we're hoping to expand. We're all very comfortable with the english language and don't mind players from other nationalities joining our ranks.Ofcourse english will be the primary language when that occurs. Our primary objective is to have fun together. Being able to participate in everything this game has to offer is hard when you're alone. Portbattles, Group PVP and shipcrafting is alot easier in a clan. We're fully aware that people have other stuff to do and won't participate in everything the clan does. Portbattles might not be the thing you love most about the game, but a clan need traders aswell. A crafter won't craft many ships without resources. We have been working together with HRE (another clan playing for Sweden) when it comes to Port Battles, shipcrafting and other things related to this game. To achieve great things, people must work together. We feel we've been successful in that area, since Sweden has been competative throughout the whole alpha, allthough having a smaller playerbase than other nationalities close by. But why would you play for Sweden? A small nation with few players and starting with even fewer ports. Because going the easy way is not for everyone. Reality shows that we will not compete with Brittain for world dominance. But history is filled with stories like David and Goliath. We all know that the hard won fight feels much better than the easy fight. We all know that those who face the hardest resistance, who fight for a just cause, are the ones who will be remembered. For a direct contact send a message here on the forum or ingame to Tomms123 or ingame to Gustavus Adolphus Magnus. You can also just leave a comment direct here in the thread for questions. Our only requirement is that you play for Sweden and want to have fun. It doesn't matter how good you are. But being nice to other players is expected.

  6. I have some plans. They are two Spanish Corvettes, for trading and exploration. There are twins and they surrounded the Earth in the exploration travel in 1789-1794. 2 Corvettes ATREVIDA y DESCUBIERTA I hope this could be a new model for the game Naval Action. Thank you.

  9. This. Rough sea in battle makes aim more chalenging. Sails can be damaged slowly. It would add some level of fustration, fun and so on. Open sea storms , maybe some damage to the ship, but nothing sereous.

  12. As we approach EA, I think the absence of the beautiful land (and shallows) we see in the open sea from our actual battles may prove the greatest disappointment to new players, and a huge limiter on tactical depth and variety. I know it will require some tricky procedural generation (or some such voodoo) to translate the OS into the battle instance, but if it can be done, it would the single greatest leap forward for the game. However, if land / shallows in battles are random and not based on the open sea map, then I would put it at a much lower priority.

  14. Also the Brittish relied on faster reload discipline than accuracy. They where the first to be concern with DPS! LOL

  17. If it is a connie killer that you want then this is the perfect ship... HMS Vindictive a razee frigate armed with 50 32pdrs... she has the build strength and armor of a 74 with unprecedented firepower. 6 forward firing 32pdr chase guns. and able to fire 10 32pdrs as aft chase guns. her elliptical stern would give her strong rear armor , coupled with her 10 rear firing guns raking this beast would be a bad idea. built in 1813 she survived until 1871... and took part in a competition against american frigates... with interesting results... Feb 1844 at Callao, had a trial of sailing with the American frigates Constellation and United States. After a run of about 7 hours the Vindictive gained about 8 miles upon the United States and left the Constellation topsails down, astern.. need i say more?????

  21. Well i would like to see a more diversity in ships types in final version of game. Some ships like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluyt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Indiaman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galeas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koff_(ship_type) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilander All those were popular in Europe

  24. Diana The frigate Diana was launched on the 10th of March 1792. It formed part of the series of frigates known as "Mahonesas", as they had been built in the city of Mahón. Thanks to its design, it could sail faster than its predecessors. It took part in the war against France along the Catalan coast although, during the war of Independence, its base was in Cadiz. As a member of the naval forces of Havana, it took part in battles against the corsairs in the Antilles and made various trips across the Atlantic. It was broken up in 1833 in the naval shipyard of Cartagena.

  28. If you're talking about the image top right of the screen showing the targeted ships damage it is here for testing purposes only I believe it has been mentioned it will be removed when the game goes live as in my response to that If you want to see how much damage he has taken sail up and ask him

  30. The need to trim sail in high winds. More sail does not always equal more speed. Too much sail aloft can hold the ship down, making her handle sluggishly. And then you can lose sails, yards and masts. I would love to see some real storm gameplay, especially as heavy weather has important consequences for combat. Suddenly that 2nd rate can't use it's lower deck guns. But on the other hand, it is suddenly faster than your smaller, lighter ship.
